Can't imagine that Chelsea would entertain that for one moment. Unless Sarri believes Jorginho is the answer to that area of the pitch and wants Gomes badly but I think that's very unlikely.
I don't think anyone except Valencia and I guess us want Gomes which is why half these rumors of who knows what validity always include "Barca are willing to include Gomes as part of any deal"

Barca seem desperate to get rid of Gomes. I don't blame them. I'd feel the same way if he was at Spurs .

André Gomes hopes to revive the interest of Tottenham
  • The Portuguese midfielder is confident of signing for the club that wanted him last season or another of the Premier

André Gomes , 24, knows that his future is far from the Camp Nou. Despite the departure of Paulinho , Ernesto Valverde does not have the Portuguese footballer and the player also understands that the best thing is to change the air to recover his best version, which he could show at Valencia but not at Barça. The whistles of a sector of the fans, the depression that he confessed and the fact that Valverde stopped counting on him at the end of the season are more than enough arguments to look for a way out of Barça.

The ideal destination of André Gomes is Tottenham . The London club already felt his signing last season and now hopes to reinvigorate this interest of the Spurs. The Portuguese believes that the style of play of the Pochettino team adapts perfectly to their conditions and believes that there they could recover their best level.

If it is not Tottenham , the Premier League is the preferred destination of the player, who even last season changed agents precisely to have easier transfer to the English league. He no longer works with Jorge Mendes and now his brother and agent Paul Martin are the ones who represent him. Martin works regularly with Premier clubs, with which he is very well connected.

André Gomes has started the preseason with Barça, but with his mind already set in England. Yes, the Barca club hopes to recover part of the investment made.

Interesting to read he is no longer with Mendes, makes more sense the link still exists.

A large part of me is convinced that we will buy Andre Gomes and I apologise to everyone on this forum ahead of time if that happens for the insufferable moaner I will be the entire season about it.

I can see this happening too (rightly or wrongly). Now he's dropped Jorge Mendes as his representative that might make a transfer to us more manageable, perhaps? In addition, it'll probably be a relatively modest fee compared with the other CM targets on our radar.

I don't think we are going to sign him. I think if we were desperate to sign him we would have done it by now... I reckon it will be either Valencia or a lower prem team like Everton or Brighton.

With the squad composition we have (even knowing we will likely offload a fair few players) we better be very certain because he'll eat up a non-HG spot and if it doesn't work here he will be hard to offload.

Good point. I am very surprised some 'hard decisions' haven't been made regarding the broader squad composition question to get us more safely under the HG issue. Perhaps we can turn Barca's loan penchant against them as they are eager to move him on and get a little cash for their dwindling coffers. I am not necessarily against this transfer and were he brought in without an immediate expectation to contribute then that might benefit him longer-term. Anything to get more competent footballers in the team.

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but, wasn't there an ITK by Herc that said we had agreed a fee for a midfielder from abroad and, by that time, everyone in that thread reluctantly accepted it was Andre Gomes? Because no one has ever mentioned that again.

Why is he hoping to revive the Tottenham interest? What did he do previously to end it?

I might be wrong but I seem to recall, according to reports, we ended it last year when Barca wanted a £40m purchase fee after an initial loan deal.

To me he seems like our last ditch resort if our other targets don’t come through. Our side transfer bitch if you will.

Personally I’m still holding out hope we’re trying to get Weigl even though it’s rumoured PSG are heavily after him.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is one of the deals Goat alluded to as being 'close' with another team also thinking the same. Pretty sure Herc mentioned earlier in the window that if this deal were to happen it would be toward the end of the World Cup, so the timing's right.

Isn’t he supposed to be a bit crud?

I think it would be a bit harsh to say that of him, he was played on the wing for Barca a lot, but he's far more suited to a central position, showed flashes of great ability but lacked consistency even when played out of position so certainly a talented player in their, could be a case of Barca was a bit too much for him, or the constant being played out of position most likely didn't help either

If that tweet is based on the article I posted earlier, then it just shows how ****y these Tottenham news accounts can be. A massive twist of what was actually said, basically bullshitting to fellow Spurs fans to get Retweets.

The article said Andre Gomes wants to join Tottenham, and it doesn't even mention Arsenal. It also doesn't even say we want him.
