Pochettino drops Eriksen deeper all the time.
We tend to start matches we Eriksen in an advanced position but if we are lacking creativity Eriksen usually drops deeper
That always seems to be a tactical change though. I think Eriksen does it himself sometimes because he gets frustrated with the turgid midfield behind him passing it sideways or holding onto the ball for too long. He never seems to start Eriksen in this way and it always seems to be a last resort when things are not going well.

The only time i've seen him set up differently was when we played Liverpool at home and that was fucking brilliant for the most part.

He wanted Janssen and Llorente..he’s always right? At Soton he signed Pablo Osvaldo for their record fee...he’s a fantastic manager and coach, few better at improving players and getting most out of the team but he hasn’t proven to be an expert eye in the transfer market
Who said he is always right, but if they are the players he wants then he is being backed in the market ... People would moan if he wasn't ...

If we don't get a midfielder, I really hope so. But there is zero evidence that this is going to happen yet. We all know Poch and his preferences for two man midfields, whether that is 4-2-3-1 or the 5-2-2-1 system

apart from the constant links to more attacking players that would seem to be surplus to requirements you mean? have you seriously not questioned the link with the likes of zaha, martial even bale how that would line up especially since our last signing was also in that area? another striker sure but I have yet to see one linked in any serious manner?

That's a little harsh on both of them to be fair, they have little chance as poch will only play one striker no matter how shit the opposition are, so they sit on the bench, no real chance. In fairness I think everyone expected llorente to be more successful in spite of the lack of opportunity. Strikers are weird no one would have foreseen the failures of either soldardo or morientes for example?

I'd personally question aurier and sissoko above janssen and llorente myself but no manager (or panel) gets transfers much better than 50% success.

Dodged the bullet more times than Neo with this one but we seem determined to be shot in the face eventually.

If we get Grealish and it looks like we will then Gomes would probably be the only other CM signing. If the plan is to sign one other CM that is better than Gomes he won't even want to come here, he was upset at Barcelona because he didn't get enough minutes. CM is one position that we have to get right and taking a risk with him wouldn't be brave but stupid. He won't come here to be 2nd or 3rd option and he isn't good enough to be 1st option. Even scouting him is a waste of resources IMO. He is hopefully just a plan C or D.

Yes it is almost always a tactical change
I was answering your quote that there is zero evidence that Poch will drop Eriksen or dele deeper, when there clearly is

Apparently we agreed personal terms with Grealish so we are close to getting it done, I don't see how Barrios link has more legs. And we had ITK of Wanyama staying so there's no point in Barrios really.

Nobody is to say but it is confirmed by itk here that we’re in for Gomes, barrios and grealish and that’s not incredibly exciting in a summer where spending is supposed to be higher than ever

Are those three the only players we have been linked with and are they the only players we will sign this summer ?

Yes but I’m not one of these “whatever Poch wants is gospel” people.

Whose opinion should the Board follow then if not our Managers ?

I should have clarified my earlier point. He has barely ever been started in that role consistently. It's always a change made in a game which makes me think it's not the way he wants to go. If he wanted to do it then surely he could have gone 4-3-3 with our current crop? Alli and Eriksen as 8s?

Hmmm perhaps but then reports on the other one say we've done the deal with the club? so ...

We may have different definitions of being backed...if I understand you correctly, he is told you can buy anybody in the world but here is the price r

there is a transfer committee....that makes the decisions....
So you are saying he has no choice?

L O fucking L.

I just can’t understand the arrogance of people to think that they know better then the people who’s literal job this stuff is. Everyone has opinions and yes you have free speech but the way it’s worded is beyond arrogant/petulant.

Poch and the scouting team don’t just fuck around during their lunch break at work thinking of players they’ve heard their mates talking about, they will have literally spent months, travelling the world, writing reports and scouting these players

But no so and so from Spurscommunity truly knows what the squad needs, why can’t poch see it!!!

Individual cases though. I don't feel at all arrogant in predicting before the fact that Sissoko would be a poor signing for us, and if Poch gave the nod to complete the deal (which ITK suggest he does on all signings) then in the case of spending £30m on Moussa Sissoko I am not ashamed to say that I feel that my opinion that doing that would be a bad idea has proved to be more correct than Poch's stance that it would be a good idea.

Feel free to call me Arrogant McHubrisface on that one.

Might as well pack the forum in. Sounds like the only member should be Mauricio Pochettino.

I don't think it's arrogance at all, in fact I think those who agree with him no matter what are dumb. Do not forget, this is the guy who wanted Moussa Sissoko. We don't think Poch is some fucking moron, we just don't think he's perfect and there's areas for improvement.

As for the specifics behind the midfield stuff. There's a clear reason for his midfield choices and our tactics. Poch wants safety first, he wants the midfield to keep the ball and not give it away presumably to minimise counter attacking opportunities. That is evident when you watch us play.Keep possession, keep things solid, and eventually Eriksen/Alli will get on the ball and create something seems to be what he wants.

I happen to disagree with that because I think you can have your cake and eat it like Guardiola's City do. They keep the ball but they play it forward too. With the right personnel, there's absolutely no reason why we can't do that too and the benefits of doing so are there for all to see, breaking down the anti-football sides and the bus parkers with sharp passing and more spaces for Alli and Eriksen to do damage. It's also better against pressing teams because you have players who don't fucking shit themselves when pressed, they actually beat it with one incisive pass or quick turn. I also think playing in this way with more technical midfield players is conducive to an attractive style of football in my opinion.

Instead of coming up with rational counter arguments people are just saying Poch is doing it so it must be right and proper. That is actually becoming one of the most annoying things in this forum. I reckon if Poch went and sold half the team or started playing Sissoko up front then you'd still have people on here saying it can't possibly be wrong because it's Poch.
