The Gomes of Valencia would walk into our midfield, question is whether that player still exists or if two years of being played irregularly and out of position at Barca has killed him.

More vision and awareness than any of our current CMs and more technique than all bar Dembele. Would rather watch him as our more attacking CM than either Sissoko or Winks.
I went on a rant saying I certainly wouldn’t want him here. But your post reminds me that I forgot his Valencia days.

Agreed based on Barcelona form that we shouldn’t touch him, but at Valencia he was so skilful and calm in the middle and really orchestrated things despite being very young.

Why are we more lenient on foreign players than those who play in Pl? He's had one decent season at Valencia and has been absolutely dud for the portugal and Barcelona side for 2 yrs.Its like saying we should give Andy Carrol another chances because he had one decent season at Newcastle.

Carol isn't a young player failing to make a mark at one of the best clubs in the world

Carroll would have had a lot of good seasons if he wasn’t made of glass!

I just used him as an example of a player who's had one decent season not literally saying we should give Carrol a chance...I can't say much but do we really want a player who gets booed by his own fans?

I think if we aren't paying fortunes a Poch believes he can turn him round who am I to argue kdb failed at Chelsea

Kdb wasn't given a chance whereas Gomes has been given plenty. Also why don't we give Poch better players and let's see what he does with them then giving him big time flop and hoping that he might turn him little decent.Believe me buddy if you watched Barca last season you wouldn't want Gomes anywhere near us.

2 exceptional seasons. And it was only 2 years ago, not 7 like Carroll’s good half season at Newcastle. And he showed a skill set which I can’t actually see in any attainable Premier League based central midfielders. At Valencia for two years he was like Michael Carrick but with pace, he really was great. He’s not yet 25. He just never broke into his preferred position at Barca because of the unbreakable threesome of Busquets, Iniesta, Rakitic, and in his fleeting appearances has been stuck out wide.

I’m not saying he’s a Modric, but the ability is more than there.

Think of it like this, last season if Dembele wasn’t fit, Sissoko played CM...

Not against him signing as a squad player.

Not against him starting once Poch has had his way with him.

That said if he ever pulls on the spurs badge though, he's one of the lads, so I'll back him no matter.

I get that but if he's one the 2 CM I have non problem but as a sole Dembele replacement?I'm not sure.

Would rather someone with more recent pedigree too but all signs are it’s dembele Sissoko out, 2 new CMs in, so here’s hoping.

Personally I never really rated him that much even at Valencia. He was certainly better there then he has been for Barca but I never really believed he was a special talent. Always felt he was just another one of Mendes over hyped clients. I would be okay bringing him in as a second option but not as our new starting cm. He's never had a particularly impressive season statistically speaking ether, in his final season at Valencia he only got 4 assists in 30 league matches. Really, we would need better numbers from our starting CM in my opinion.

I don't think a central midfielder should be judged on assists.

I think it should partly come into play but no it shouldn't primarily and I wasn't sugesting it should be, just mearly commenting. I always think stats are tricky anyway, unless your trying to moneyball.

Being neutral and fair on him; he has very good range of passing. Reminded me to a Carrick-type player. He won’t excite you, but he is composed, and always seems to have time. He is not my preferred, but giving an honest balance. We certainly don’t have hiscthpe in our books. I could see him being a key pivot in transition.
