When hr left a lot of us were saying we needed to get Maureen in.
I see exactly the same style and mindset being employed by avb.
would we have this thread if Maureen was in charge and we'd had exactly the same start as avb?
I very much doubt it....

People have been talking about the team gelling, but I'm starting to wonder whether what we're seeing is pretty much the finished article, in AVB's eyes.

The reason I say this is because even though we're not brimming with attacking style, statistically we're going very well, even breaking a few records a long the way. We also have an immense defensive record, which is unheard of for a Tottenham team.

AVB has set us up to play patient, possession-football; he'll look at the stats and think "Things are going well; we're 3pts off 1st place in the Prem, and have conceded only 5 goals in 15 professional games".

And to be honest, he's entitled to say that when you take the results into account. It all depends if you like winning at the expense of exciting football.

For the record, I don't particularly mind a couple of seasons of boring football, if it cements our place in the top 4 for the next 10 - 20 years. I wouldn't want more than 2 seasons, though, because at some point football is supposed to be a fun hobby to enjoy; something to be entertained by.

Is it just that though? It matters - or least can matter - so much more than mere entertainment.

There was a multitude of reasons why some of us wanted Redknapp gone:
- Finishing his last season in relegation form.

Still managed to finish higher than AVB. And it was no relegation form.

- Blowing not one but two challenges for third place and finishing fourth.
- His poor man management.
- His in ability to effectively rotate his squad.
- Lack of any Plan B in games.
- His in ability to shut his mouth.
- Embroiling himself in a criminal investigation because his big mouth implicated himself.
- His in ability to shut his mouth when it came to transfers which scuppered more than a couple of big deals.
- Being shit tactically.

I'd take all of those debatable deficiences over the shit we are being served now. People can go on all night about great start and ignore that 1) performances have been mostly bad 2) schedule has been rather easy and 3) we've been lucky with some calls.

These are qualities AVB has demonstrated he is better at than Redknapp with out any of his bullshit.

I want him to demonstrate ability to get results (ie. at least finish where Harry finished on 2/3 of his seasons) without playing the most boring football on the top half of the table.

Okay, I think it is more than entertainment, but there's definitely an entertainment aspect to it. If we won every trophy from now until I die, playing really slow, boring football, I'm not too sure how much enjoyment I'd get out of it.

It sounds to me like some here think that AVB is simply thrilled that the team are playing the way they are, without the fluid passing, attacking play and flair football.

Wake up people - he's still working it out AND grinding out results at the same time! I'd ask you to give him a chance, but there's no need. He's already taken it and is excelling with what he has to work with. We're lucky to have him!

If we have a poor run of form and drop down to say, 5th, the knives will really be out! It will not make pretty viewing.

Wow, sorry for that. I love spurs, I die every weekend with them but can I post my opinion even if its criticsm? I support this team here from Germany as much as I can but anyone here enjoying the way we are playing? Delete it if its not necessary, thanks for the nice comments to a fellow yid...

Nothing wrong with your OP mate, In fact I agree with most, if not all, of what you've said.

I agree re the style of play, I just hope it gets better as the season progresses and our creative players begin to gel.

For what it's worth our form this season reads thus WWWWLWWWWDWLWWW

I think we are still seeing a work in progress under AVB. He has gotten the foundations right, in so far as we are difficult to score against and are able to grind out results.

Hopefully AVB can now build on those solid foundations and start getting the team to produce the type of performances that we all want to see and many expect from a Spurs side.

Honestly where does the revisionist history come from that we played beautiful attacking free flowing football under Redknapp? It really did not happen as often as you think.

How is criticising a manager who's been here for over a season a knee jerk?
Dumb.

I think most of us would agree AVB is a very effective manager but he's more Mourinho than Wenger. It's about results, not pretty football.

I think once Adebayor gets in the team we will start to see good football.

But, but I remember the game in 2010 against Hull where we had 30 shots and played some wonderful stuff and drew 0-0 and everyone went home absolutely made up because they'd seen some fantastic football. No, hang on, we were all a little bit pissed off, come to think of it, because we'd thrown away two points...

It depends what you're comparing it with, if it's the game we're playing now it was highly enjoyable free flowing attacking football. Then again it doesn't take much, does it?

We hit Daws hitting big Crouchie for most of Redknapp's reign. And to put it in perspective we kept 7 clean sheets in the league in 2010-11 while that was going on.

Now that is a revisionist view if anything. He started merely some 40 PL games on whole HR era. However even hoofing it to Crouch would be improvement entertainmentwise to what we're showing now. The most boring side on PL.

What's that got to do with wether we played entertaining football or not.

Ignore the idiots mate, it's a forum for critique and discussion and some of the replies in here are childish at best.

You can see the truth. People comparing our football to Mourinhos is hilarious at best. It took penalties for us to beat Palace away, Swansea home and Hull home with little to no other chances as well as Villa away taking a stray cross to get ahead and open the game up for us. Chelsea home wasnt far off pathetic from AVB in his downright inability to understand how open we were centrally and instead bringing Chadli on for Towsnend(Taking away our only pace on the counter) when a central sub was needed. Arsenal away was a mess structurally as well and Norwich wasn't much better than any other game and West Ham was abysmal.

Anybody measuring any stats which include the European games needs to take a step back and actually look at the standard of our group this year, Championship at best if not worse.

AVB however can do no wrong. Similar story to Redknapp, many of us were laughed off when we criticised him early on, eventually people realise you just have to have patience with them and let them take their own time to acknowledge what we view as glaring problems.

Ultimately the problem with most people on here is you only see the basic face of football and not the true workings of it "We iz gotz 3 points less than top of leeg in october so we must be good duhhh" completely ignoring our easy fixtures so far and how we have stuggled to get by them.

Also as a side note, for those who do believe we will click eventually, you need to start something resembling the same starting 11 for more than 2 games in a row before that will happen.

Edit: Don't even get me started on how much better Rodgers and Pochettino are doing on far less resources.

If you actually think that then can I seriously suggest you go and support a more entertaining team such as Norwich and leave the rest of us alone.

Fucking hell.
