Reports in Italy suggest there is a tug of war between Spurs and West Ham for the services of 28-year-old Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia. The Italian club reportedly want €10m for the centre-back but are prepared to strike a loan to-buy deal. Spurs are in need of a defender following the injury to Jan Vertonghen. With the team in the title hunt yet again Pochettino will need strength in depth to maintain the challenge and Ranocchia may be a short-term fix.

Chelsea also want him...

I bloody hope not... tipped as having a bright future turned into forgetting how to defend, being dropped and booed by the home fans, being loaned out and playing likes he's never played football in his life... returned to Inter, still shit and now being whored around Europe in the hope someone will be stupid enough to sign the useless twat.

Expect we will be linked to a few CB's in the next few days. Makes for interesting reading when some Spurs fans are woried regarding our injury issues.

That said Pochs views on short termism should be well known by now.

IIRC, Wimmer had a crap appearance also last season when he first covered for Vertonghen, but that was sorted out rather quickly. I'd give him one more shot before looking at the transfer market.

This would not be a good sign regarding Toby's injury.
if you were sad enough, like me, to watch the entire FB live recording by dier and alli on the plane to Barcelona, you'd have seen Toby moving around the aisle in a good mood, with no apparent difficulty, and doing his hair.

Inconsistent player, but had a hell of a lot of talent and there is a decent player in there. Back in the day it was Ranocchia who was the hyped one, not his partner at Bari Bonnucci. At Inter he started very well gaining the captaincy but then his performances took a nose dive. I still believe with the right coaching he could be a seriously good player, but at 28 it is a bit of a risk.

If Poch wants him im down, and I think he will suit a back three, but it would be a gamble.

P.S. Its also complete bullshit, comes from Calciomercato.it , a site that literally invents rumours, and even in that same article they say that we are actually much more interested in Pinamonti a 17 year old striker.

No need, we have 5 possible cbs- Wimmer Dier, CCV and at a pinch Davies and Wanyama. If Toby is back soonish we don't need to panic buy.

It wasn't so much his positioning/not having a clue where he was that peed me off... it was his double brain fart where he dallied on the ball and tried to take on Aguero, picking up a stupid yellow card in the process. Then later on bringing the ball out of the back only to play a square suicidal pass straight to a City player. It's basic defending and he royally screwed it up. They're being rusty and then there's WTF moments like that.
