Grow up dude, if I can accept it then you can. Who is your favourite world player, is he a yid, how would you be feeling right about now if he walked out with an Arsenal shirt..........welcome to my world, I have to get used to it.

Agreed. Arshavin has been my favourite player to watch since Ronaldo was in his prime.

He genuinely got me excited about football outside of Spurs again and I rushed home from work to make sure I had my dinner ready and a beer in my hand to watch ZSP's CL games this season, I've not felt like that for a long time and the fact that at one point he was so close to being ours I could taste his hair makes this one very tough to take indeed.

I had no idea the TV rights were up - that's bang on, i bet.

Does the premier league have TV interests in Russia already? If not, you can guarantee that with Arshavin here there'll be enough Russian stations bundling over each other to stuff cheques into the hands of the suits for the rights to show the games.

Would be worth millions.

As I understand it, the TV rights they are trying to negotiate (in advance) are the domestic ones, to be on a par with the deal that currently exists and runs out in a couple of years.

I believe that overseas TV rights are done on a country by country basis, but adding Arshavin to the "portfolio" would no doubt add a lot in terms of the negotiating power for TV rights in Russia, where there's a huge amount of wealth to be tapped into.

Agree with pretty much all of this. I doubt very much anyone at the goons or the FA will explain why there was such a hold up and how it managed to get through, which will only add fuel to the argument that the top four get preferential treatment.

The FA / Premier League would not dream of doing anything that damages the brand, especially at the moment when they are trying to enter negotiations for the next TV contract. Having Arshavin plying his trade in the premier league helps two fold, as he's a quality player and he is also arguably the biggest name in Russian football.

If this was West Brom trying to sign Andrei Bollockwaxing from Outer Mongolia they'd no doubt refuse it, but in this instance not a chance.

Agree totally, esp the WBA part, except that WBA would have stuck to the rules. Let's face it if you're the Arse you can afford to be hard nosed in negotiations with Zenit if you know that the normal rules don't apply to you and you'll get away with completing way past the deadline.

Good player, could have been the darling of WHL if ZSP did'nt piss us about last summer so much.

That's the sad truth I'm afraid.

You have a point. It's like when Football Italia took off here after Gazza's move. This could be very profitable for the Premier League.

They have obviously been working with both clubs all this time to get the documents straight. ZSP said themselves that an agreement was made late last night, so how could they have had docs in confirming by 5pm?

Bullshit.

The premier league have broken their own rules to let arsenal shaft the system yet again, just like they have done since they were unfairly promoted and replaced us in the league back in yesteryear.

It's ok, Arseshaving will be a huge flop, Arsenal will fail to make the european cup, which will damage their finances for their super stadium and lead to mass sales in the summer.

In fact, we will win the CC cup, so no extra uefa cup place will go to the league. There will be at least one non europe qualified team in the FA cup final, rendering it impossible for the league to get an extra place in the uefa cup by that means. everton will pip arsenal to 5th, led by a rejuvenated Jo, and so Arsenal will finish 6th and the only way they will get Europe is through the fair play league or via Intertoto.

You heard it hear first!

i think it's mostly a matter of transparancy that's making me curious about it - aside from the amount of time it required after the deadline, the facts still stand that he was in the country for long enough, was passed fit in time and agreed terms in time, so what has taken 23 hours past the deadline that was enough to convince the fa & premier league to give them that long?

It's gone from no deal at all at 5pm, as reported by ap and reuters - here it should've stopped. If the weather was a factor, fair enough, but it wasn't so we can stop even talking about that.

I believe that the zenit statement about it not being done was a knee-jerk reaction to the thousands of media reports that he was - they were rebutting a rumour and apparently did so with good cause.

In cases like this, the prem league and the fa should both have the balls to apply here the same iron fist they do to all their other laws, such as not investigating incidents if an official mentions it in their game report as dealt with. There's no moving on that, despite actions like bosingwa's that obviously deserve it.

All animals are equal.

But some are more equal than others.

At least we will get to watch him grace our league. Although I wouldn't complain if he failed to settle into the EPL, how good would that feel.

Anyone who has seen him play cannot deny the guy is an outrageous talent, I am jealous, quite jealous. Still can't make me stil through arse v anyone except us.

Hope he flops but I just can't see it somehow!

Am I the only one to wish a pox upon AA?
If he does play against us I hope he breaks a leg then gets MRSA in the hospital.
I hope irate Russian nationalists visit his home.
He chose the Scum and I do not care for him.
I hope he looks as ineffectual for the arse as he did for Russia against Spain.

Arshavin is class.

But he isnt like Ronaldo, Messi or even Nasri.

These players have had bags of ability since day 1, we were made aware of their talents at a very young age.

Arshavin, Berbatov, Pires..these kind of players started to blossom as they hit their peak ages (26+), and have only recently become world class players.

This from the comments section under that Sun article entitled 'F-Arsh' (seriously, come on):

Posted by: In-Lehmanns-Terms
The delay wasn't caused by either Arsenal or Zenit. The delay was due to the paperwork being faxed over to the right people just 30 minutes before the deadline (Confirmed by the agent who ran the deal Phil Smith on Talksport radio). Because of the timing of the fax and the terrible weather, the FA/PL headquarters were working with a skeleton crew until the next day when they had to deal with THREE other delayed transfers and both the Lampard red card and the Bosingwa incident. There was nothing illegal or sinister about the transfer... Except for the weather. End of story.

Is it just me that finds that tremendously confusing. The weather delayed the fax machine? And the FA buggered off early so didn't bother dealing with a transfer as they had to deal with Lampard andd Bosignwa incidents - which seeing as they did sod all about, can't have taken that long, surely?

Am I right in thinking he's got Sol's old number????

He will tear Chimbo or Corluka or whoever to bits down that flank. His pace, Walcott's pace and our lightning like defence. Oh joy.
