This from the comments section under that Sun article entitled 'F-Arsh' (seriously, come on):

The delay wasn't caused by either Arsenal or Zenit. The delay was due to the paperwork being faxed over to the right people just 30 minutes before the deadline (Confirmed by the agent who ran the deal Phil Smith on Talksport radio). Because of the timing of the fax and the terrible weather, the FA/PL headquarters were working with a skeleton crew until the next day when they had to deal with THREE other delayed transfers and both the Lampard red card and the Bosingwa incident. There was nothing illegal or sinister about the transfer... Except for the weather. End of story.

Is it just me that finds that tremendously confusing. The weather delayed the fax machine? And the FA buggered off early so didn't bother dealing with a transfer as they had to deal with Lampard andd Bosignwa incidents - which seeing as they did sod all about, can't have taken that long, surely?

That's a sham of an excuse and they know it. That paper work could've been sent electronically to anyone at all that needed to see it, to claim it was because they had a skeleton staff at Soho Sq is just a big stack of slightly gammy pig-cocks.

who gives a shit man!? you really wanna be so petty as to try and penalise arsenal for that shit?

hats off to them - fucking jealous! he's gonna be soooooooooo sick!

brrrap.

And it's not a case of penalising the Woolwich, they have broken the rules, the same rules that would've been transparently enforced and publically heralded by the FA if it had been many other clubs, i suspect.

I agree that it's fantastic to have the talent in the league but at what cost? This is going to run and run and i expect Durham on Talksport was right - every club he plays against will appeal that they have fielded an illegible player. Won't take much of a lawyer to get that through either, unless the FA/Prem League are going to fudge facts to aid the case (which wouldn't surprise me)

This whole thing stinks. The fact of the matter is, the FA did not receive everything they needed before 5pm, and it is impossible to attribute any delay to snow a) he was in london all bloody day and b) snow does not affect electronic media.

It is a complete farce. If anything, he would not have even signed but for the snow because he would have made it to an open airport and flown away when no decision was reached if the snow had not killed all transport including airborn.

What a farce. Spurs players all get ill ahead of the final game of the season, one which affects the european competition for which we are to qualify, and the FA cannot even massage the rules a little bit, but Arsenal blatantly fail to adhere to restrictions and the premier leage just pats them on the bum and says off you go.

I believe that through civil litigation in a fast track case it is quite easy for any club who feels they are wronged by this to apply for and get an injunction as an interim judgment which prevents Arshavin playing until it is completely proven that everything has been done properly.

However, no club would do this as football is meant to be self regulating and they don't want to open up that can of worms. Hence why Ian Hume did not sue Chris Morgan for deliberately nearly killing him earlier this season.

I'm so bitter right now.

From the Daily Mail (yes, I know!)

Certain documents from Arshavin's club Zenit St Petersburg reached the football authorities via Arsenal after the 5pm deadline.

It is thought the Premier League agreed to give the deal the go-ahead "as long as the FA were happy" after lawyers were consulted over the legality of approving the deal.

The Premier League confirmed in a statement the signing of Arshavin had been "substantively completed prior to the close of the January transfer window".

And from the guardian

It is understood that Zenit did not submit their forms in time and there are also suggestions that there was a slight issue with Arsenal's submissions

well guys, all our team have to do, is play with their heads and their hearts ad get us a league victory over the Arse on Sunday.. We are well due one, and I think we can do it.. Sod The Arse and who they'e got in, or by what means, i'm only interested in Spurs and the Spurs players.. We've spent enough, and have more than enough quality, to beat this Arse side, in fact, we should be up there putting things right for the lasagne gate, and taking 4th/5th place from them..

The difference between the 2 sides? Continuity, and transfer control - if we'd had Jol buying players he wanted, we'd be above them right now.. And if we stay with Harry getting his players in - we will be up there again challenging.. And when we're there, with our new stadium, maybe, just maybe, we'll get decisions going our way too.

COYS!!! Cant Smile Without You.

i bet if this situation was superimposed on us we wouldnt have had the permission to sign the player.. we should have put a last minute bid of 20mln just to delay everything and mess everything up for the gunners, but i guess it woulda made no difference!

What happened to the Email that was supposed to be sent? Did they receive those before the deadline?

They're saying they received all necessary paperwork before the deadline which is frankly horse shit.

There is still grumblings that the Woolwich's submitted paperwork wasn't up to scratch and that the FA weren't 100% happy with it but you know that'll all be ironed out without another word too.

We won't be so begrudging if we win on Sunday. Here's hoping... it's not out of the question.

If it's true that Zenit rang Spurs on deadline day to try and get a bigger bid than Arsenal's £12/15m then I'm gonna be fucking angry

It begs the question though, could we not have done the same in the summer? It appeared to be very close to happening, but we ran out of time on deadline day. Surely we should have been able to use the imaginary loophole that Arsenal are using?

There is just the sad but realistic possibility that Arse-shaver preferred to sign for the Gooners rather than us, seeing our relative positions in the table.

Just a thought...

From what i understand, the summer was a very complicated time, involved some very complicated paperwork and Ramos' departure left us back at square one, with regards to him coming to the Lane.

Either way, i don't expect for one second that Levy and his cronies would have put up with so much fannying about that close to the deadline.

Remember, this is the first "big" signing the Woolwich have made in years, it's been almost exclusively players they've bought as youngsters and pushed up through the reserves, hence the frustration of players like Vieira and Henry at the lack of competition in the transfer market. Whilst that worked for them for a while, their lawyers and suits have far less experience in the market of established stars compared to ours.

Well, we probably dwarf pretty much everyone when it comes to spending experience over the last few years, but you know what i mean

Where did you hear that?

Twas on the bbc rumours page yesterday. Could be bullshit, which is why I said IF.

It would be plausible though, Zenit certainly did not want to sell at cut price, but needed to get rid of him.

I really hope this is not the case.

Not ITK, but I wouldn't be surprized if 'Arry didn't want Arshavin and prioritized Keane instead.

'Arry's BBC radio interview suggests that he's still working out how to accomodate Modric, and there are suggestions that he will often play Zokora and Palacios and maybe even JJ in the same team.

I can't see 'Arry even considering playing Keane, Defoe, Modric, Arshavin (let alone Lennon) in the same starting XI.

on a different note, check this shizzle..

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/article2206464.ece

He admits spending hours playing Football Manager on his PC, acting out his dreams of Premier League success.
In his book 555 Questions And Answers On Women, Money, Politics, Football, he said: “Playing Football Manager I would take on a team from the English lower division and promote it to the Premier League, where I would win the cups and titles.”

I like the cut of his jib! lol
