Started for Birmingham in their play-off tonight!

Sub'ed on 62 mins just after being fouled by Barry Fergusson. 2-2 draw so Blackpool go through to play off final. Townsend will return to Spurs - option as a game changer from the bench against Fulham ?

Was he any good tonight? Has it been a successful loan?

Would be good cover for the squad next year unless of course he just isn't ready or at the required level.

Is he really good enough for a team challenging at the top end of the prem. I have my doubts.

He's a better option to have on the bench than Gio, surely?

And maybe even Kranky, as much as I love him he doesn't impact a game that often this season when coming on as sub. Though he has had his injury problems.

Townsend's pace makes him a threat, if he can get his final ball/end product sorted he'd be useful. That hasn't held Lennon back though, has it?!

I asked a Birmingham City fan about him last night and he said he has been terrible! He said he's done one good pass all season and that's all he's done good for them

I'd still think he'd be useful as a possible impact sub on Sunday though (instead of Gio)

Damn, not good to hear. Especially for a championship side, if he isn't performing with them what makes us think he can do it with us? Guess next season will be the decider, I imagine it will be another loan as we will most likely keep Caulker and Naughton who will be back from loan.

Football has a lot of opiinions, some well thought out, others not so. Also with a player on loan, some fans of the club to which he is loaned will say 'no terrible' before saying 'needs more experience - probably best to send him back next year' or 'he'll never make it in the Premiership - but we can take him off your hands for £3m'.

He kept Nathan Redmond (Birmingham winger and England under 21 player) on the bench for most of his loan with Birmingham so must have done somethiung right.

Here are some quotes from Birmingham fans on a season's appraisal of their players :

  • Started like a house on fire - offered pace, directness, and real width on the left. Tailed off towards the end of the season, and was rotated with Elliott a lot, but a real prospect. Would love him to come back next season
  • Townsend 6 is unbelievable. He's been our best player since he signed. A lovely little player, the ball seems to stick to him.
  • Redmond deserves an 8 and I don't reckon either Townsend or N'Daw deserve more than a 5. Other than that I tend to agree with all the marks.
  • Townsend was better than Beausejour. (note Beausejour was awarded in OP a 7 versus Townsend 6)

As Akie said on 3 March (post above) ' Being described as the outstanding player of the game by skysports against Derby County'

Not sure if Yid21's informant is necessarily being serious or if he is, he might be in the minority of Birmingham fans !

IMO he could be useful as an impact sub at first...but with luck will prove to be better than that over time.

So in summary 30 appearances, 2 goals and 7 assists with 45 shots of which 23 on target. Also opposition felt the need to foul him 45 times (ie he was considered a threat) - but he only received 2 yellow cards (ie does not go down easily, not a diver)

Not bad stats for a 20 year old.
