Joined Leeds on loan for the season

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/new...dia&utm_campaign=leeds-loan-for-andros-010112

Andros Townsend has joined Leeds United on loan until the end of the season. The young winger, who has had previous loan experience in the Championship with Millwall, Watford and Ipswich Town, recently signed a new contract with the Club until 2016 and has scored twice in eight appearances in our colours to date.
Then he got bored.

Andros Townsend has joined Birmingham City on loan for the rest of the season.

The young winger made seven first team appearances in the first half of the season, scoring in our Europa League win at Shamrock Rovers, before joining Leeds United on loan in January.
Andros made seven appearances for Leeds, including a goal against Doncaster on Saturday, before being recalled earlier this week.

Pity that he doesn't get a chance to go on loan to a lower Premiership club. He's been on loan several times over the past few years to Championship teams so this appears not much different as Leeds are in mid-table.

Leeds do play Arse in the FA Cup next weekend though so perhaps he could feature.

Agree with the above sentiments, I would have liked to see him in the PL. Hopefully he will really impress at Leeds, then get a shot at the PL next season

LOL!

Well I'm sure he would've liked to go to a Prem side. Maybe the club don't rate him as highly as some of us fans do. Perhaps we could have waited til later in the window to see if any of the likes of Wigan would have the need for someone like Townsend.

What is more interesting to me than his actual loan is what it means for our transfer dealings.

Obviously a large part of our game plan is to rely on pacey wingers (or full backs)

We have been ok without Lennon to an extent because Walker can provide much of what he does, but now we are left with only really Bale who can provide that type of play from the left (Rose probably less capable of that than Townsend)

I know we have versatile squad members like Niko and Pienaar but I am wondering if this loan is a signal of our intent to sign in Jan or just as simple as we are not in the Carling or Europa any more so best to loan out such players to get them game time.

Gio seems to get on the bench ahead of him and Gio's pony so I don't think he is rated particuarly highly

Townsend

Sounds like he made a good debut for Leeds today according to the reporter on Sky Sports News.

Yeah a mate of mine who is a Leeds fan just text me saying thank god for Andros Townsend. Sounds like he got a bit of a kicking in to and got a few of the Burnley players booked.

Sounds like he had a good debut. I think it's a shame we didn't loan him to a prem club as I think he is one of the youngsters that is closest to our first team.

: 3 of Burnley's back 4 have received yellow cards, while Kieran Trippier was also sent off. Andros Townsend was fouled for all 4 bookings.

I think the pundit on Soccer Saturday described him as sensational when reporting on the Leeds winner. This might be the making on him. He's just signed till 2016, if he comes back after a good half season with Leeds then next season it might be time to have him on the fringes. The potential returns of him, Caulker and Naughton might allow us to trim some of the excess fat in our squad (and hence, wage bill) without actually weakening at all, and improving our homegrown eligibility. Pienaar, Corluka and Bassong would raise decent fees between them, there'd be no need to replace them with those three lads returning and the funds could all go towards a permanent signing of Adebayor (or another target man should Ade be too difficult).

Yeah I smiled when I heard the words sensational. This next half season could be the making of the kid.

I think its for the best he is on loan but at a time where we need a backup winger for Bale and Lennon he could have been useful?

As with all good wide men the test of him will be when teams find out about him and start double marking him, but I think he could be a good player.

very good point BBLG. With Carroll in there as well, we certainly have some players making the step up. Levy's youth policy beginning to bear more than 1 fruit a decade at last :)

also, i thought Townsend was left footed, but on the bbc live commentary for the Leeds game, it said he took several set-pieces with his right peg? Be excellent to blood through a truly two footed attacker with pace and strength.
