Ramos filled with pride

Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos has revealed that the 5-1 Carling Cup win over arch-rivals Arsenal was like a cup final.

The Spaniard is fast taking on hero status and his stock rose again on Tuesday as Spurs snapped their winless run against Arsenal in stunning fashion.

The former Sevilla boss won major titles in Spain, but he claims the win over Arsenal was one of the highlights of his career and he is looking forward to the final on February 24.
“I experienced it like a final because it was one for us,” he told AS. “Beating Arsenal at home in front of our fans, being able to play at Wembley…it is an incredible scenario in England.

“Going to Wembley is like a religion, people make you understand it and I felt why football was born in England, everything is totally different from other countries.

“It was a tremendous feeling because reaching a final following what the players experienced in the first half of the season was not easy.

“I always say that I like it when the players and the fans celebrate.

“When I arrived I knew that it would be hard to win something because we were second from bottom in the league and we could only achieve something important via the cups.

“We have made it in only three months and that is why we are delighted. We have reached the first objective and now we have to improve and to write the last lines in this scenario."

Ramos says it will be a proud moment when he leads his players out at Wembley.

“The one who can play at Wembley as a player or manager is very proud because you have not got many chances to have this possibility,” he said.

“We can also do that in the FA Cup, but it will be very difficult because our next adversary is Manchester United and the games will be played in their stadium.
“They are playing at a very high level but we are going to test them with our potential.”

The Spaniard says that hard work has been the key factor behind Spurs’ turnaround.

“Working is the only way I know,” he said. “You can dream, but it is the only way to achieve aims.

“Today we are being repaid for all the tough work we have done in three months. The footballers have believed in the work from day one and we have made the team bounce back.”
