Don’t fucking shoot me for posting this- I know how volatile this place is at the moment- but he was the joint fastest player at the WC (alongside Ronaldo) clocking speeds at 34kmph. Looking for silver linings, people

Are you sure that wasn’t the speed of his studs up boot going through someone’s shin ?

Slowly working down the list if true as Rebic can't seriously have been seen as a top target.

An N'winger can't be far away now

For those who don't speak German, let me summarise for you.

Some Frankfurters think he's Hot.

Other Frankfurters think he's a Dog.

As Tiger says, though, each has their own Onions.

News of his sale is being given a chilli reception by those on there that think he’s mustard.

Apparently Frankfurt need the bread though

Hes actually a decent player, but I think people presume that Zaha/Martial was the main target. The options down the list have rarely worked and we usually want to shift them in a few years (Stambouli, Fazio, Sissoko). One positive that can be taken from Liverpool is that they seem happy to wait it out...they wanted VVD, wait til Jan, they wanted Keita, wait til next season, they wanted Allison, don't give up and go back again.

Id claim most people are the opposite, they aren't set on a dream target and would happily take anyone, even if it isn't an improvement.

EDIT: If hes the one we wanted all along, I take all the above back.
Liverpool might wait, but they also throw ridiculous money at fees and wages.

If we're buying a player from Frankfurt I'd hope they'd be reacting like the Palace fans are over Zaha, who worship the guy and are in complete denial.

If their opinion is split he probably isn't the level we require right now.

You've seen a lot of him then outside of the world cup?

Not really but I can tell this guy was never top of our list of targets in May. Anyway, the link is probably nonsense, but if we were to sign him, it would be very very underwhelming because it is quite obvious to all and sundry that we wanted Martial or Zaha and have settled for Rebic. Forgive me if I don't run around the streets of Tottenham naked in celebration.

That's kinda how it works I suppose. You can run around the streets of Tottenham in your birthday suit if you like, it's Sunday after all.

Just desperation being shown now.

Desperate times when we’re being linked to one of the stars of a World Cup runner up, who plays in a position many on here think we need and is almost entering his prime. Desperate times indeed.

Is he that bad a player then?

I genuinely want someone who has watched him play explain to me what makes him any worse a possible signing than anyone else outside of Zaha or Martial.

So many experts appear when we're 'linked' to a player.

This.

To be fair, Leverkusen fans were split over Son.

Personally not the biggest Rebic fan, but food for thought.

This.

One of the stars of the WC runner up is pushing it a bit. The best Croatia players were IMO Modric, Rakitic, Perisic and the right back (forget his name). Rebic was decent - tenacious and got a good goal against Argentina but to say he was a star is a slight exaggeration IMO.

Agreed.

He had that midfield in behind of him and scored one goal, a great finish from a goalkeeping error. He scored 6 league goals for Frankfurt last season.

Perisic and Mandzukic are a level above, and attack is not even seen as their strong point.

My opinion is we have to go big or not bother on the wing options. At least with Martial and Zaha we'd have a decent argument that they would compete with or take a starting place from Son or Moura.

I do question if the scout means Rebic though, his tone suggested a long shot.
