That won't be the only reason I'd expect.

He may not have settled in the area or not be enamoured playing under Maureen etc.

He wouldn't get guarantees from any top club imo.

Yeah maybe. I see no way to accommodate him without one of our attacking mids being sold though and I don't include Sissoko in that. Lamela would be the obvious one I guess.

I have a discussion point. Are we sure he's better than Son? He hasn't had the production Son has had these last 2 years and from what I've read about him he seems to run hot and cold just like Son. I would love the addition but I'm not completely sold that he would walk in here and be an upgrade over Son.

Yep. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Lamela was moved on.

There's a question mark as to whether he's of the required quality. Heart is without question.

If anything my main goal this summer would be to get another player (other than Eriksen) who can get the ball to Son, Kane, and Alli to score goals. Creativity is the main issue in my opinion. I thought Lamela was capable of it but I'm just not sure how much longer we can wait on him.

He was absolutely brilliant in the first half of this season before they brought Alexis in and he was suddenly dropped.

For me he's a bit different than Son despite the fact that they both play at LWF and striker. One of Martial's greatest attributes is his close control, and while Sonny can beat a man he doesn't go on mazy runs through tightly packed defenses the way Martial can. As far as I'm concerned this is one of the biggest things we've been missing, we were so much more threatening from the moment that Lucas came on at the weekend and started running at West Brom. We could play with Martial off the left and Lucas off the right against the bus park teams and would be a much more difficult proposition to defend than we have been.

I will be absolutely amazed if we sign Martial. Just can't see us paying what United would want for him, plus I think other interested clubs will be able to blow us out of the water in terms of wages. Would love to see him in a Tottenham shirt as I think he would be a great fit but just can't see it happening, unless we sell one of the crown jewels, ie Eriksen, Dele or Kane (not that I think we will)

Also, why would be buy both Martial and Sessegnon. That would make me think Son is leaving.

The only way we would do that is if we see Sessegnon as a LWB. I know many people are of the mind that he's not a left back anymore and his future is higher up the pitch, but he has played about 20 matches this season for Fulham as a left back (albeit most of them in the first half of the season before they brought Targett in on loan). The wingbacks in Poch's back three formation spend most of their time in attacking areas so he wouldn't be short of opportunities to chip in to the attack from that position. So Martial as the GKN/Janssen/Llorente replacement and Sessegnon as the Rose replacement.

I agree. If we plan to start playing a back 3 with wingbacks again then the LWB/RWB in that system are basically just wingers rather than fullbacks anyway. I don't think we should play Sessegnon on the left of a back 4, but as a wingback with a back 3 he'd be fine.

100% agree. The first hing I thought when this rumour/itk started was how much would he cost and the minimum I was thinking was £60m and I doubt we can get to that. And that is an optimistic low amount.

They paid £36m with the deal potentially rising to £58m 3 years ago. They'll want a decent wedge back, with a premium for selling to a rival no doubt.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but do some of you really think Man United are that threatened by us?

They are far more likely to sell to us than any of the other top 5.

Our absence of trophies. We aren’t local/arch rivals like City or Pool. We aren’t on the same financial level as any of them.

Mourinho has to win the league next season he'll see his rivals as City obviously, Liverpool with their CL charge this year and to a lesser extent Chelsea with their PL winning history. It's win or bust for him and he'll see us as much of a rival to winning the league as Arsenal.

Not that it would happen obviously but if I was them I'd loan him to us, that way he can't play against Utd but could help us take points off who he sees as their rivals to the title.
