Is he that much of an improvement over son? Just think that unless it is the money might be better used elsewhere.

I'd rather Bale for example, but I think he'd be a very good 'get'. He is younger and I think could have a higher ceiling than Son under a manager that doesn't stifle him. We have tracked him for a long time.

I think the fact that Utd fans would rather see Mourinho leave than sell him speaks volumes.

Son, whilst greatly improved over the last 2 seasons, still has the tendency to go off the boil for lengthy periods.

Playing devils advocate...

Does Martial ever get a long enough run in the team to have lapses in form?

Or when he comes on is he trying to impress because he's so often not in the team?

FFS just because Martial might not get into the team over Son straight away, it doesn't mean he doesn't improve us. Who would you guys prefer on the bench, Llorente or Martial?

With that being said, I think Martial's best is better than Son's best.

Why have either on the bench? Saying that the money might be better spent replacing dembele.

Son is not perfect. Just not sure that martial is that much of an improvement.

I think its more what Martial could be more than what he is right now. I think he will end up as an out and out striker personally and a very good one at that.

Martial is 22 and already an established and very capable player in the PL. He'd be an huge upgrade on our squad depth and he has the potential to develop in to a fantastic player. I for one would be ecstatic if we signed him, however it doesn't look very likely based on the latest ITK.

There's no doubt we need depth in attack. Having a versatile striker who can play wide or up top with Kane gives us great options. Son can play centre forward too so we'll have better cover than we do with Llorente at the moment.

We should only sell Toby to Utd if we get a top player from them in return and Martial is the most realistic. I also think he would thrive under Pochettino.

ok let me put it another way. If we had £60m to spend would your first choice purchase this summer be martial?
He might be the first player we can physically get (due to WC etc...), but assuming all is equal, then I would admit I would "prefer" to see CM sorted, however much that costs to get the right man.

We are kinda assuming though that IF we splashed 60m on Martial, we are going to struggle to finance other areas. That just won't be the case, we will sign whomever the best target is in each area based upon our valuation of said Player and their willingness to come. So we might not get our main targets, say de Ligt, but not becasue we splash 60m on Martial, but more likely because we don't value him at the 70m qouted price.

But we don't have a bottomless bank balance.

Hercules has said we have a budget of around £50m and the rest will come from sales.

We have to get at least one cm in (2 if sissoko goes as well).

We have to get another defender.

I just think martial is a luxury that might improve us but will take a massive part of our transfer budget.

But we don’t only have £60m to spend so it’s an irrelevant question lol.
Actually not entirely.
Let's go with a mythical 150m, if we splash 60M on Martial, that "only" leaves 90m to fund the other positions, of which we know we need to fill CM badly and CD at the least.

EDIT: Baz responded to his own qoute first

Massive pinch of salt, but I remember seeing someone on twitter say a football writer told them off the record that the Toby-Martial swap was on, and could happen sooner than expected. Could be a WUM but still. Since then the Darren Lewis story has broken and now some murmurs about martial are coming back into the picture. The line has been reluctant to sell Martial to a rival but I don't think it's been categorically denied?

I sometimes think we judge him differently than our own players, Martial is the same age as Dele Alli and Harry Winks, Dele is a very special player but we all still think of him as young as we do Winks who is a favourite but would he have been a regular starter for important games had he not been injured? He might well have done but it's by no means certain and we all accept he still has a lot to learn and experience to gain.
I sometimes get the impression with Martial it's like we are buying the finished article in his prime which he isn't, what I do believe though is that if he comes to us he will be some player.

Must say, I think Martial could be a cracking player for us...

He does however play in the same position as Son and in a similar style, from what I've seen...
