Yep. My worry is if Woodward is street smart enough to know United fans will be seriously annoyed if they let him leave to another PL club. It may come down to Mourinho and Woodward butting heads and Woodward being prepared to put it on the line and give in to his manager because let's face it, Woodward will be the one left to take the flak as Mourinho will be long gone should Martial turn into the player everyone thinks he could.
The question is how badly does Martial want a transfer and how firmly does he stick to his demand to stay in the Premier League. I don't think Pool, Southampton and Leicester got much out of forcing Coutinho, Van Dijk and Mahrez to stay another six months or another year, respectively and the distractions each caused probably didn't help.

Admittedly those are all completely different circumstances but if Martial publicly asks to leave and is denied, it certainly causes a headache and damages Yanited's brand and recruitment efforts, another problem child in a locker room full of outcasts like Bailly and Shaw (and now Herrera, I guess...) who seemingly can't ever do enough to convince. Martial hasn't really seemed to put the pressure on, though, beyond his agent testing all sorts of waters (at least from information that is public).

If Herc's "meh" attacking midfielder proves correct, isn't that Martial ruled out? Or is he only considered a winger / backup striker?

he prefers to play striker but hasnt always been used that way. I think he'd definitely be an adequate backup to Kane and also able to play either side of Eriksen. This guy was going to be a superstar until Mourinho showed up.

Although I admitted I've seen little of Martial, I can't agree that he's struggled in the PL. He's struggled with Mourinho being anti-football & hating all things attacking. You only have to read the article on the post in which I asked for more details about Martial's abilities. It's only from October, so literally the season just finished.

5 goals & 6 assists in his first 9 appearances of the season, only for Mourinho to remember he doesn't like exciting players, and the rest is history.

You do not score 5 goals and get 6 assists in 9 games if you're struggling to adapt to the league. The lad has simply been treated like shit.

I get the feeling he's never been kept on the pitch through a bad match, let alone a bad patch up there.

But he is sullen, hopefully he can shake that off and shine if he comes, he has it all in glimpses.

Anyone else think Levy really doesn't rate Toby at 70m but is forcing yanited to either pay Ottp for him or just give us Martial in return?

Of course he is. If you have a saleable product, why wouldn't you value it higher than its true worth?

Mourinho is predictable in wanting a very experienced proven premier league player above 'potential' Levy knows this and will do his best to get the best price. If you must sell to opposition then make them hurt

Seems like a good trade , straight swap with toby .get it done please

Yep don't know why both parties are mucking about, straight swap Toby for Martial. If Man U don't play ball walk away and find other suitors. Don't know why Mourinho expects us to sell to a rival when he won't. Will test how much he really wants him.

Not sure there's many suitors that could afford him that need a centre back.

In which case I would be happy to keep him depending on whether Poch thinks he will be totally professional and not upset the squad.

Don’t think Mourinho cares once he’s decided he doesn’t like a player tbf, as he didn’t with Mata. It’s Woodward and the rest of them who realize Martial isn’t actually crap and would be a star for us.

Think Bourinho has passed his peak and is on the downhill...
in my eyes - if we can lure Deligt - I’d have martial and let Toby go north. As many a has poster suggested martial can be an outstanding - regular - player. And I feel, also, that Toby’s burned his bridges

They did but played God awful football despite spending a fortune.

He is a great manager but is certainly on the decline in my opinion.

He is what he is, they'll be there or thereabouts again next year and they'll spend millions again but Moyes and Van Gaal had the same resources and failed. Mourinho has always been a destroyer of the beautiful game but he is effective and that won't change
