Not sure I agree with that. Everything goes through him at Palace but they are out of games for periods so naturally he’s gonna have quiet spells within games. For me I would say Martial drifts out of games to frequently even when they are dominating he looks disinterested. He lacks a bit of aggression and desire for me whereas Zaha seems to have a real hunger and an edge to his game.

If Zaha had a real hunger he wouldn’t have signed a new contract at Palace. Plus we need to be very careful as do other teams with signing what appears to be the star players in struggling teams.

Bony - flopped
Sigurdsson - flopped
Rodwell - flopped
Berahino - flopped
Benteke - flopped
Llorente - flopped
Lucas Perez - flopped
Janssen - flopped

It is easy to put up decent numbers when the team's attack revolves around giving you the ball 70% of the time and hoping you succeed once or twice.

i dont think we should use that to measure how a player is. plenty of players came from lesser teams and flourished. but that wont be zaha. he will never make it to that level. flatters to decieve

So, to get this clear, Martial is our number 1 target.

We've been in talks and he is also interested in us.

Constantly told we will pay the fee.

Now he publicly states that he wants to leave, and we have suddenly gone a bit cold?

Something doesn't add up here.

The bit where after each line Man United publically said "he is not for sale". Whether he will or not we can't argue with them forever.

United has been steadfast the last 2 summers in not selling him to a rival and now they have come out saying he is not for sale.

Could they be posturing with their latest statement? Sure but if they are, it is likely because of interest abroad and trying to get a higher bid from them. They wont be selling him to us.

If they won’t let us sign Martial then I wouldn’t be willing to deal with them over Toby.

Same as Man City last year, wouldn’t deal with us over Sancho yet happy to take Walker off us.

so what do we do with Toby?

Just can't get behind a Zaha signing. I know Poch wanted him, but he just seems to drift in and out of games too often to rely on him.

with Zaha he is great for Palace, because teams don't sit back and defend against Palace. yes he has speed, and trickery and fast feet, but the end product doesn't warrant 70m

With greizmann announcing he's staying, we can probably strike martial going there as a replacement off the list of possibilities, especially as they've already agreed a deal for Lemar. Cant see real Madrid being interested, don't think he's Barca's sort of player...

I don’t think because Madrid or Barca won’t be interested then we’d be favorites...plenty of clubs with more prestige than us im sure would be interested but if reports are true that he wants to stay in premiership then we may have a chance

Ah the old bait and switch, Levy loves the old tricks best, promise a marquee signing and end up with Jack Grealish.

Seriously though, the Martial situation has messed us around for several windows and not necessarily our fault, but I do hope we took that into account when planning this window, the single most important window in recent history. I’m hoping there must be Plan B, C & D.

I also hope we don’t do a desperate Spurs deal after a major tournament, for those who have memories as long as mine will know that Sissoko was just the latest punt we took on a player that had a good couple of weeks in a national team shirt that tuned out to be a donkey. Poor scouting if we do.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

If Martial was out marquee signing, and we are not signing him, are we no longer marquee signing?

In his position I doubt it since we’ve been told his alternative will only cost £20m... wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Serge Gnabry.

Isn't this is just a list of players that have flopped? What about players that have succeeded? All squads aren't made from star players from star clubs.

List of star players whom have predominantly been signed from poor clubs only to fail to flatter when being surrounded by quality players.

Right. Not accounting for the star players signed from poor clubs only to flourish surrounded by quality players.
