Right. Not accounting for the star players signed from poor clubs only to flourish surrounded by quality players.

Such as? Which big money signings from poor sides have flourished at bigger clubs?

Palace want ‘£70m’ for a players who’s contributed 16 goals in the last 2 seasons. Son on the other hand, a player whom like Zaha is hit and miss with his form has contributed 39 goals in the same period. Even contemplating spending anything like £70m on Zaha is beyond ridiculous.

Get him to make the tea?

yeah ok good joke

but honestly why keep a player you don't want, will hardly use on 50-75k a week, and then lose 30m in cash next season, that could go towards a decent player that's not greedy and is wanted and wants to wear the shirt

So you are comparing a top 6 player in a team that scores alot to a team that battled relegation?

I do agree there have been a good amount of star players from lower leagues who flop, but we could also say Kane struggled with lower teams on loan..... Look at him now! It's not just a case of looking at stats, if there is potential there to improve the player with us or our team with the formation we play then it's worth a shot if the price is right and the manager wants him ( Zaha isn't as the price is far too high).

That's not quite what you said though. I agree paying £70mill for Zaha would be a risk. Any player at that money would be. But that's the market. Buying players from lower/struggling teams is ubiquitous. Some work out some don't. Buying players from successful teams has same risks. Some work out some don't.

In our squad we bought Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Alderweireld, Wanyama and Dembele based on their performances for teams outside the top 6. That’s not a bad list of players at all.

Hertyid on coys last night re Martial (previously he was quite bullish about him coming here so good to hear that man utd’s recent comments are probably just posturing):

He's moving. We want him. Fingers crossed.
Good whoring by spursfan77 in the ITK discussion thread. Thought it should be here too.

I like Zaha, and I think he'd do well at a top 6 club, but £70m is beyond madness. I can see how he's worth that to Palace, though, as he seems to be the difference between staying up and relegation.

I think Martial is a no lose for Spurs.

If we get him, we'll pay quite big and get a name all Spurs fans will be excited about. However if Man United don't sell to us, then we can say they see us as too big a threat.

I'd personally really like to see him here, but I have bigger concerns on a CM atm!

For all of United "We want to keep him" as I said the other week...its to save face with supporters and also a negotiation position. A player who they say is in their plans will demand a higher fee than one who they say isn't.

I can't see any scenario where Martial stays there this summer. The player wants out, he has two years left so if he doesn't leave this summer by next year the fee will be less than half what it is now. On top of all of this Mourinho doesn't rate him. I can't see how Martial doesn't leave in all honesty.

Llorente - flopped

I'm not sure we can ever consider Europa League, Serie A (x3), World Cup and European Championship winner Fernando Llorente a flop, to be honest.

He hasn't exactly had the opportunity to shine at Spurs, simply because we don't really need him. Our system doesn't support the type of striker Llorente is. In spite of this and in spite of his limited opportunities, we've seen no petulance from him, because he's a model professional.

On the one occasion we actually needed to rely on him to pull us out of the shit, he scored a hat trick in 12 minutes in the snow. If he moves on, which is likely, I have no doubt he'll bang in goals wherever he goes.

Putting him in the same category as Saido Berahino is ridiculous.

The same Llorente whom ITK said was heading out of the door after being anonymous in cup games? He couldn’t even get on the bench towards the end of the season. He was a waste of space.

No, he was an unnecessary signing. Not the same thing.
