People need to start getting a realistic view of this pretty quick.

65m will absolutely smash our record transfer for a player that can't get in the United team and probably won't get in ours either.

If we pay this we would be insane, potential yes, but Thierry Henry he is not.

I am a fan and would love him at Spurs but let's get real, City will not pay 75 for Mahrez and no one will pay anywhere near that for Zaha, so let's calm down and look for options.

Martial is a wasted talent at the moment but he is still young. This could be awesome

Thiery Henry himself said Martial is better than him than he was at the same age .

Martial has much more potential than Bale? Are you serious? He'll be lucky if he even gets close to the level Bale has achieved.

That's under estimating Martial. In my opinion, Martial has better skill, Bales edge is pace. Bale was unleashed by Spurs whereas Martial has been contained by a succession of managers that we would not want managing our young players.

Martial is a very good player. Under Poch, he could become awesome.

So when Bale was 22yr did u know he would become the player he is now, would join Madrid and win 4 Cl with them? I doubt it.

"really odd". Really hyperbolic.

They are both wingers whose main attribute was/is pace/dribbling.

Giggs was a skillful player. I wouldn't compare the two. Whilst Bale is a beast of a player, I wouldn't call him skillful, he more like Michael Owen in that pace is his strongest attribute

I can't imagine Owen scoring any long-range goals or overhead kicks, so I think we're safer with Giggs tbh

Of course not, but do you think that happens with every player who shows similar skill at that age? There's a very low probability that any player takes as big a step up as Bale did. That's why the players who do are so expensive. I'm not denying that Martial has talent (and a lot of it) but to claim that his potential is "much more" than Bale's is ludicrous. Even from a young age Bale has pretty extraordinary attributes plus an incredible drive and determination to become the best. Even if Martial's potential was about the same as Bale's at the same age, there would be a low chance that he ever actually realizes it the way Bale has.

I'd still be all for us buying Martial though.

Gareth Bale was incredibly skillful, saying he is just pace is the sort of thing I'd expect of a the lazy journalists who say things like Modric is too small, Kane is too slow, etc etc.

Bale has and had incredible pace, but his close control was and is insanely good too. He does't regularly do tricks and flicks like a Ronaldinho or a Ginola, but his ability to feint one way and go another is incredible, his 360 turns to take the ball past defenders at pace were ridiculous (I remember 2 in the space of a second v Madrid) and his first touch was near perfect. Add on to that the technique of his actual shooting from all angles and distances and you have one of the most skillful players on the planet. I'd say, of the top players, only Messi, Iniesta and Neymar can really be called more skillful.

I did and I said so, not that he would join RM and win CL's but he would certainly be good enough to, however your point is valid because as I remember there were an awful lot who didn't.
Not that I'm arguing with you though because I am all for spending the money on Martial because he will be worth it without a doubt.

Thanks for wasting 3 and a half mins of my life with a video of Owen scoring inside and on the edge of the box :cautious:

What was that suppose to be proving?

He scored an overhead and from outside the box in that clip proving he can score an overhead and from outside the box.

You are kidding right? You might as well as add Ronaldo, Suarez and Mbappe.

Bale is not on the same level skillwise. His pace is a huge part of his game. Giggs had more than that hence he could play when his pace was gone.

That wasn't an overhead kick - it was a short arse vollying the ball

P.S. a couple of yards outside the box is by no means "long range"

You seem to have a different interpretation of the word skill.

He'll have to kick on. At this age (22), and in only his first season at LeScum, Henry had scored 26 goals.

Clearly Martial needs a different manager/system to improve and turn his potential into tangible rewards - however someone will have to prise him away and stump up. I can't see Levy doing that.

Saying that, no-player we sign should be considered a definite starter; they will be expected to prove themselves and adapt to the Premier League.
