When I keep telling myself there is no way this could happen I forget we have the Toby bargaining chip. Bitter/sweet really

Interesting timing with the ITK from Herc and Hertyid, as there were also some updates from France yesterday:-

José Mourinho is willing to let Anthony Martial leave this summer - France Football http://bit.ly/MouMartial

Anthony Martial is not ruling out running his Manchester United contract down so that he can leave the club for nothing (FF)
http://bit.ly/MouMartial

Extra pressure on Utd.

Herc’s latest update is pretty definitive today. Let’s hope all goes to plan.

Martial £65m
De Ligt £55m
Loftus-Cheek £30m
Grealish £20m

Total £170m

Isn’t that what Hercules said we’d be roughly spending? And yes, I do realise I’ve just made these valuations up myself. ?

Edit: Almost instant optimistic rating from a guy that hasn’t posted in over 4 years. The hover is strong with this one ?

10% chance we get Martial IMO. He's exactly what we need and MUFC will undoubtedly know that.

Can you help explain this logic to me. I'm in the category of a player in the mold of Modric is exactly what we need. So I'd just like to hear the other side of the argument.

Not sure about that. He's very similar to Son. I doubt anyone is looking at our squad and thinking we need an attacking midfielder.

I’m way higher than 10%. Man United love nothing more than shiny and expensive new players. If they sell Martial it will be to sign yet another big money player instead.

We've been looking for a player for god knows how long that can adequately cover Kane (if needed) that is naturally a striker, but is versatile enough to play in the same team as him.

I'd also argue he brings something different to the team approach

But Martial pretty much only plays off the left his entire ManU career its why they brought in Zlatan and Lukaku. Sure he could fill in there but he's best in Sons spot and to me Son is really damn good and one of the better wingers in the league. This has to mean to me that we're going 4-3-3. Son, Martial, Kane, Lucas and Lamela for the front 3 spots. Thats an incredible group for those spots. I personally have questions about Dele in a more reserved role so will be interesting to see how that plays out.

Didn't son get 7 goals in the 4 games kane was out last season?

Not against getting martial but i do think son can cover.

Whilst I do think we need more in midfield (excited by the Kovacic link), I think there is an argument that we still need another top quality attacker. Sometimes I feel like if we start Son and he isn't firing, we have no attacking quality left to lift a game. Now if you get a Martial (who at 22 can still become a world class player) you suddenly have a top quality player to bring on every game and scare tired defences. Now we may already have that player in Lucas, but we haven't seen enough to prove that either way. Plus having two dynamic gamechangers can't hurt!

The big teams in the PL are overloaded with goalscoring attackers, this is becuase when one's form drops these extra players can come up with the goods in key moments, whereas we currently just persevere with players until they play through their poor form.

When you consider the option of using Eriksen in a deeper playmaking role (which he seems to gravitate towards these days anyway) and possibly Dele as a box to box option next season suddenly another place appears in the squad.

Just my 2 pennies/cents...
