Will be flabbergasted if we sign him, just can't see it happening. I think they'll probably get Toby and we'll have to shop about for an alternative to Martial, annoying.
just can't see it happening ...because it won't united would never sell us a player, too think they would is daydreaming. what is real is the possibility that Toby will get sold late in the window for somewhere in between 55-70m, because that's how we are and United is not the same as us, they don't need to sell us martial to get Toby

Not the best of sources to say the least but The Daily Star are reporting claims from TMW in Italy that Juventus have ended their interest in Anthony Marital for now. Apparently the fee United want of £55m is too much and they are willing to wait until next summer as if he doesn't leave United this summer, they'll be able to sign him on a free next summer.

I thought i read somewhere that United have a 2 year option on his contract so I'm not sure he'll be available on a free next summer. I smell bullshit

I assume TMW is TransferMarketWeb?

Looks like ManU's PR engine is chugging along again on this one.

https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...-news/man-utd-tottenham-martial-news-14836364

Manchester United have given Tottenham short shrift following an enquiry for Anthony Martial.
Martial's agent revealed earlier this month the 22-year-old wants to leave United but the MEN understands the club has quoted Tottenham 'silly prices' for a player they signed for an initial £36million in 2015.

The fee for Martial rose to £44.4m last year after his 25th United goal against Burnley triggered an additional £8.4m payment. United agreed a fee rising up to £56m with Monaco and value Martial well in excess of that figure in the current market.

United's brusque response to Spurs was inevitable after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement in talks over Toby Alderweireld. United opened negotiations with Tottenham in May with the intention of concluding a £55m deal for the 29-year-old but Spurs are holding out for considerably more.

Sources say Martial and Alderweireld's situations 'could rumble on and on', with the Belgian refusing to sign a new Tottenham contract. The transfer window for Premier League clubs to sign players closes in six weeks' time on August 9.

Despite United's stance, Jose Mourinho has said his policy is that if a player agitates he 'will never stop a player from leaving even if it is to a rival'. Mourinho said the Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap deal was proof Premier League top six clubs should conduct transfer business between each other more often.

Both Alderweireld and Martial are technically out of contract next year but their deals include one-year options. Alderweireld's extension would automatically trigger a £25million release clause in 2019.

There's not really anything new in this article so I'm not personally suddenly feeling like it's dead in the water. I think we all know this one will rumble on and the article even suggests as much.

The recent ITK has been cautiously positive so unless we sign Plea or it gets ruled out by Herc etc then I'll keep on hoping and praying :)

For me the only difference is tone. MEN, especially Samuel Luckhurst, basically just ManU's easy PR machine article writer. They generally go right to him for anything they want to put out quickly. This represents a change in tone from earlier articles on "ManU have no plans to sell him this summer" and "ManU have no plans to sell him to a rival". It is much more "You be hard on Toby we be hard on Martial".

Totally agree, I see this as a positive considering where it is coming from (the guy is more fanboy than journalist at times). Utd's stance is loosening and there is even mention of Mourinho being ok with it. A transfer request might do the trick. Pretty safe to say it'll drag until Belgium are out of the World Cup or Utd sign another CB however.

Not to mention the point about things being 'set to rumble on per sources'. So no matter how 'brusque' Utd were, the door is not shut...

This would tie in nicely with the itk's seemingly being a little more positive about this one.

As long as we get other important positions (CB if Toby leaves, CM, CAM & CF) sorted before then I'm not fussed if it goes to deadline day. It would be a massive bonus if we get him if not then we still have great options in attack.

Chavs written all over it you mean. Possibility that Hazard may be off and they will need a new wide forward in that position.
Nah.. That's, going to far down the food chain now for martial. Midtable yoyo small Club in Fulham won't appeal IMHO.
