There is also this quote that was left out of those above-two-posted articles

Mourinho, who oversaw a dull 0-0 draw against San Jose Earthquakes, spoke about Martial’s desire to leave. “I would like to be in Los Angeles now and I am in San Jose,” he said. “You cannot do whatever you want in life.”

We don’t even get a mention as a possible club in for him on SSN

I’ve got a feeling we never were seriously in for him, it is not an area of the squad that we need to spend a record fee on - We are stacked with top talent in that dept, Son, Eriksen, Dele, Lamela, Lucas.

We put a bid in for him last summer. That for me is being more than interested.

Last summer, since then we have brought in Lucas and others have signed new contracts.

I think that Martial was probably only ever an opportunistic signing that could be made based on how things have gone with Jose over the years. The kind of signing that if available for a fee we are able to pay should be made as there aren't many of them of his quality around. I'd be very surprised if Pochettino signed a new contract on the basis that we signed him, I'd have give the possibility of us getting him with all of the factors surrounding him, us, our top 4 rivalry with Man U realistically around a 10% chance at the beginning of the summer. I do think however that when it seemed like it could happen we decided to wait and risk delaying other potential signings in that position as the risk/reward was worth doing.

In all honestly when it comes to AM/WF's that can help up top when potentially needed, I struggle to think of anyone that comes close to Martial and Zaha that could have been signed this summer, except maybe Thomas Lemar before he went to Atletico

He is a c***....but not going to lie, some of his lines do make me laugh.

I’ve longed for the day when a top player wanted to leave Man Utd for spurs after all the shit I’ve had to take over the years from the plastic Man Utd fans.

I remember ya agreeing a fee for Soljkaer back in the day only for him to reject us ?

"Martial’s future looks certain to come to a head in the coming weeks. #mufc hierarchy do not want to sell and are actively planning to trigger his contract extension. Mourinho, meanwhile, is perfectly willing to let him go now" - James Robson - however reliable he is.

All I know is that i'll keep praying...

If he goes seems most likely that Jose will force him to choose a continental club after helping out in the first couple of matches. Martial probably so unhappy that he would go for that if it was the only way to get out.

I keep holding onto the fact that their defence is dire and we have something they want.

You mean the same martial that we attempted to buy before ManUtd blew us out of the water?

Yes the same Martial we tried to sign before Man United blew us out of the water. They blew us out of the water back then because their finances completely smashed us out of the water amongst other things so surely going after a player we came up so short in getting last time round would be more opportunistic than realistic right? Which just so happens, according to ITK on how this ones ended up appears to be the case.

If he was our number 1 realistic target this summer knowing how Mourinho likes to stifle rival teams progressions, as well as the competition we would have potentially faced amongst the likes of Juventus prior to signing Ronaldo, Bayern Munich and all the other top clubs that would have been in for him, then we got our realistic shortlist of targets wrong. He wasn't able to make the move to us before, why would our chances be any different now that he is a household name and playing for genuine league rivals now apart from if he really loved the idea of Poch, Tottenhams project or London and refused all else because of this?

When was the last time Man United sold us a player? If that doesn't take tell you that the Martial signing was nothing more than opportunistic, vent if it doesn't still happen which I'd be delighted with if it did, the next nothing we will.

Zaha is a realistic target, Martial is more opportunistic, even if he would now be keen on a move

So, Mourinho says he won't force Martial to stay blah blah.

I see this as a little trail of crumbs to lead us away from signing anyone else so that they can slam the shutters down at the last minute. Jose is as crafty as he is paranoid.
