Not a bad move for him, playing in Major League Soccer will in theory be putting him up against much higher quality than playing him in League 2 or something.

Had a look at their Roster and the only Standout names on that list to me are Kenwyne Jones and Chris McCann (Spent like 8 years at Burnley?) along with Hector Villalba who is meant to be pretty highly rated. So really, I see no reason why Walkes won't be pushing for that Starting XI spot!!

Good luck Anton!!

Atlanta United won their first ever pre season game 4-0 against Chattanooga FC.
Walkes, who wear number 26 (thumbs up), came on at half time and played leftsided centre back.
They'll face two MLS sides in a friendly tournament 18th (Columbus Crew) and 22nd (Seattle Sounders), and the final game aginst a lesser side the host Charleston Battery on the 25th.
Season kick of at home to NY Red Bulls march 5th

I'm sure he'll get some game time, especially with his versatility. But I don't think we shall expect and demand a starting position (right away?). He came on as a centre back recently, on the left his challenger is Leandro Gonzalez Pirez who's played for some good sides and played for Argentina's international youth teams when he was of age. There might also be some argentine bias there as the head coach is argentine. The other centre back is US international veteran Michael Parkhurst.
In his other positions are US full internationals Greg Garza and Jeff Larentowicz, and mentioned McCann.

He might very well play himself into the side, but it won't be a walk in the park.

On the bench for their first ever game tonight.

They are playing in Georgia Tech's football stadium until the new Stadium is ready(i'd assume sometime around the summer)

I hope this can be as successful a move as it was for Simon Dawkins at San Jose. Granted, that loan for Dawkins was when he was around 26 (?) and had obviously no future for us.

Grant Ward was also a successful loan to MLS. I think MLS loans are a pretty good way to kick start someones career and get them valuable experience.

Now, Walkes is really young still(just turned 20 almost a month ago) and Poch seems to like him so we will see if he sticks around when he returns if he has a successful loan. Cant help but think we could see more go to Atlanta on loan while Darren Eales is there

At fault for the likely winner for Red Bull. Lost Bradley Wright-Phillips as he scored to go up 2-1.

Edit: Ruled an own goal on Walkes. Own goal a minute after coming on. Spursy

Unfortunate for Walkes but I think that must be his 4/5th own goal this season

I went to the Atlanta game yesterday against MN United hoping to get a glimpse of Walkes in action, but he was an unused sub in their snowy 6-1 romp.

Should have been postponed Shirley.
Has hardly played there so not sure what it was all about.
