Antonio Conte was left to reflect on ‘a difficult day’ and 2-0 loss against Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday.
We faced an uphill battle after conceding twice inside the opening 20 minutes against a team with the second-best defensive record in the Premier League - Wolves’ 17 goals against so far this season bettered only by Manchester City’s 14.

“It was a difficult day, because we conceded two goals after only maybe 15 minutes,” said Antonio. “The performance was good, maybe one of the best since I was here, but at the end, we’re talking about a bad result, 2-0 down. We created many chances to score. It’s very difficult to comment on this game.

“We played against a team that is very good defensively. They’ve only conceded 17 goals, the second best in the Premier League after Manchester City. I think we created many chances to score, despite the solidity of this team.

“We have to try to improve in many aspects, also, to live with the pressure... the pressure of when you play in this stadium, you feel a bit of pressure, but that pressure has to be positive for us.

"These guys are working very well, their commitment is very high, but we have to know we have to improve in many aspects.”

The bit in bold is just simply worrying!!

He honestly thinks that was one of the best performances since he's been here? I sincerely hope this is just to make sure the lads' confidence doesn't take a hit because for most of the game it was horrific.

I'm sure he doesn't believe that. What is he supposed to though? He's stuck with these players for the next 3 months so he has to publicly back them

But that's a debate for another thread.....

My first thought was that it was probably an effort to preserve their fragile confidence.

Has to be, right? He knows he can't do a damn thing now until the summer, so there seems little to be gained by going in two-footed on them in the media. He'll likely keep his counsel to the training ground.

I reckon you're right. I can't see any sense in him putting the boot in too much. It sounds like he let rip in the dressing room, which isn't a surprise.
