I can't agree with that. Whatever it actually means.

He can probably hit the ball the hardest of our four strikers, but I'd say he probably has the worst shooting accuracy of the four.

thats spurs fans for you

Berbs took pennos for Leverkusen and he always took a good penno. JD always seems to scuff it low. If Keano had been on then he would have buried it obviously. I just think at that stage of the game it needed a real cool head, and you dont get any cooler than Berbs. Why did i record it on my mobile as well, maybe i jinxed it, oops

thanks, thats pretty much summed it up

It's blindingly obvious that Keane is the best penalty taker at the club, his record speaks for itself. He wasn't on the pitch though, so you'd really expect one of the strikers to take it. Defoe is the senior player I suppose being at the club longer, but his record from the spot isn't that great. It's not that bad, but it's not that great either. I would have thought Berbatov or Bent who have been regular penalty takers for their previous clubs would have been a better bet in the circumstances. That's just my opinion, any striker should take a decent penalty.

Plus, according to the latest study a penalty struck into the top corner is 100% unsaveable. Penalty taking is a skill, the skill in where put the ball as well as the skill of dealing with the pressure. All skills are honed through practice.

I never seen Berbs take a penalty, although I am sure that Ramos won't let Defoe take any more.
Although Berbs just doesn't seem to want to take them that much, maybe in future might be worth giving it to Jenas or Bale who can oth strike the ball well.

Always a toughy though, Green had never saved a penalty before this season started, never, by his own admission, and he has now saved 3 this year, and we are only in November.

Depends on many factors. By no means 100% unsavable.

Not if the keeper is standing on that side with his hands in the air...

...like he just don’t care

"A well-placed ball, high to the corner, will not be stopped by the goalkeeper even if he anticipates it.

"There is not enough time to react, so a kick placed in this area would have a 100% strike rate.

Hitting the inside of the side netting, low down just inside either post is often the target for a penalty taker.
According to Professor Riley's theory, it has a greater chance of being saved - as unless the ball is well struck, the keeper can still reach it - but it is easier to pull off.

I've saved penalties hit high in the air before.
Okay these are against sunday league players, but it was still saveable.

I think what the guy is talking about is high into the top corner, and that from a standing start on the line you couldn't reach it in time even if you know where it's going. He does go on to say that it's risky as it's difficult to hit the spot, almost in the angle of post and bar. Here's a link to the whole article anyway.

No, it's a completely different matter.

Only if your name's Frank Lampard.

*Lampard shoots!*

*It deflects off Joe Cole's left bollock*

*Comes back off the post*

*Hits Shevchenko on the buttocks*

*Comes back off the crossbar*

*Hits the goalkeeper on the back of the head*

*And it's a goal!*

*Frank Lampard's claiming it, and he'll get it, and rightfully so!*

Shearer used to hit his penalties into the roof of the net.
Keane takes a similiar penalty too, these are the hardest for a keeper to save, but also risky at the same time.

Actually, all our strikers' accuracy has been below-par so far this season: Berbatov, Keane and Defoe have around 33% of shots on target, Bent 25%. Not good. However, of Bent's 4 shots on target, 3 have gone in; of Defoe's 4, none has. That's what makes him our most natural and clinical finisher.

I was hiding behind my armchair - I don't even know how I got there- (may have moved there just before JJ cleared off line) let's just say I wan't over-confident :)

However I said before the game I'd take a point - so overall happy with result and performance - good result good performance - with the performance bordering on very good.
