Excuse me if this has been posted before but if the Soldado deal goes through we will have spent £50 m on 3 players this summer with nothing coming in. Great is the first reaction but it is a little un -Levy like especially the Soldado deal who will have little sell on value. . The club is now very quiet about the Bale situation and there is a suspicion that he is spending this money knowing he can get at least £80m for Bale. Or is that too much of a cynical view ?

We have only made a loss on transfers in the past 4 seasons and that was when we were in the UCL

itk's elsewhere have stated that Mr. lewis has loaned the club £50mm interest free for a period of time (10 years from memory) - and that is aside from anything the Chairman has budgeted for

I think Perez had got wind of the news and hence stood firm on Soldado's fees.:)

Pretty simples as to why we are spending big bucks this summer. Either two things will happen:

A. Bale leaves next summer and we get a shit load of money.

B. We have one hell of a season, win some silverware, and convince Bale to stick around. We get a shit load of money from Champions League footy.

Either scenario, this summer's transfers will be covered.

Training centre is built, new tv deal.

We are owned by enic who are an investment group. Lewis has never thrown money at us and i doubt he'd start now. We are self sufficient.

We cannot spend any fee we make on Bale because

1 - the calibre of player needed to replace him wouldn't join Tottenham

2 - we cannot afford the wages a £ 30 M + player commands

3 - it doesn't matter how many players we buy for £ 100 M as Bale is only one player and therefore only 1 of them can take his place in the starting XI

Bascially he is worth more to us, on the pitch and commercially than anything Real Madrid would pay

Understand what you are saying and agree that he is worth more to us as supporters but, as mentioned by Lilbaz, ENIC is an investment company and not sure that he is worth more than $100M cold hard cash to them! The argument could be made that spending say $60M on three highly talented youngsters (think Bernard, Lamela types here) and putting the change in the bank would make us stronger in the long run. You say that only one can take Bales place but if we got three high quality players in they would all get into the first team at the expense of Bale and two other weaker links.

Yes. And Modric was sold that summer.

We usually spend moeny, yes. But when have we spent upwards of £50m without any big money coming in? Very very rarely, if ever.

It's not a guarantee Bale is to be sold, but it's certainly unusual.

Lot of new big TV deals this year. Look at how much Cardiff and Swansea are spending. In normal circumstances Swansea would be under pressure to cash in on Michu but they simply don't need the money.

We've released Bentley and Gallas which frees up around 100k a week in wages and I expect we'll sell Huddlestone, Parker and Adebayor. Should get around £10m for them and save another £150k a week on wages.

Even better than you think - Bentley and Gallas gone frees up more like 130k a week, and if the other three were to go you're looking at more like 190-200k a week (Ade 100k, Parker 60k, Hudd 30k minimum).

Basically we've got a lot of flexibility in the wage budget this season, though some of it will be swallowed up should Bale sign a new contract.

But we've also got the TV money, training ground requires no more capital investment, stadium up front investment has reached a point where we've spent as much as we can without properly committing to the project, and we have a new sponsorship deal with HP as well as others.

There's loads of cash about at the moment.

Well I am of the belief that Levy or Lewis didnt wanna spend big on Harry, he was never long term, they thought he would be off to the Englad job. Before Harry money was spent, big money Modric, Bent, Bentey, Berbs etc. Lets not forget Berbs, Modric, Keabe and Carrick were old sold but all of them WANTED to go, its very hard on Levy to think he simply cashed in on them, Levy done all her could to keep them. If they hadn't Id say all of them would still be here.

Slight tangent but I remember reading in the Independent a few years after the Carrick sale that he was actually willing to sign a new contract but Commolli wanted to bring in Zokora as he viewed him as an upgrade. Carrick certainly never publicly demanded a move but his situation was slightly different as he only had two years left to run on his deal at the time.
