Can't see anything going wrong now. That 400k a week will have his eyes gleaming and United are clearly pulling out all the stops to get him. Only way it happens if City have a change of heart.

I'm starting to lose interest in the PL now, every club (us excluded) only seem to care about throwing money at players that will help them win stuff NOW rather then develop their own or buy a player to develop. It's boring and goes against everything that I enjoy about the game, and most fans are only concerned about getting one over on a rival fan rather than actually take pride in their club. Not enough people love the game for what it's supposed to be about.

It's happened to Arsenal - although I couldn't give shit about them - they've fallen into the cycle of spending obscene money on players getting to the end of their peak rather than try to change the attitude at the club with players you could mould. Like what Poch did.

*Having said that at least Pep does buy potential, coach them and integrate them (Jesus & Sane).

I hear you on this, but Poch and Spurs aren't exactly guilt-free in this area

We've dropped £35m on Sanchez who came straight into the team and another £30m on Sissoko

Added to that, the likes of Sonny, Llorente, Jansen, Aurier, etc, etc have been bought for large fees, relative to 99% of football clubs that exist

Spurs are certainly living within their means, but they still pay out large fees for players and wages

Even academy grown players are expensive, relative to smaller clubs, when you consider the complicated coaching, scouting and facilities infrastructure in play to bring these young players through

This is now the state of the modern game at the highest level

With Sissoko you're correct but Sanchez is hardly the finished article, we ago have to develop him which was Ross' point I believe. Janssen nor Aurier nor Sonny were the finished articles either.

Manchester City have said that they rejected Sanchez because it would have "impacted the financial stability of the club"

Now they are probably talking about his wage demands. In this crazy world of football I actually commend this stance. Money is no object to Manchester City. They could spend whatever They want on whoever they want.

It is a ray of sensibility that has put a little bit of my faith back in the game.

Maureen and Man U on the other hand do not really have the moral compass to realise this. I think (no I hope) that there desire to flex muscles in order to outdo City could have some quite serious repercussions moving forward. Parity in wages could produce an oversized overpaid squad with no one willing to take a drop in wages to move on.

I never thought I would say this but hats off to you Manchester City & Pep.

I read an article yesterday that said he'll be on 500k a week. Madness to pay a footballer that.

Top sportsman who play in heavily financed sports with lucrative sponsors get paid that if not more, have a look to see how much Lebron James' latest contract is.

I may be wrong but I think a lot of the AFL & NBA contracts are tied in with endorsements.

Messi and Ronaldo were recently quoted as earning well over £1m a week when endorsements were taken into account. Sanchez will probably be up there or abouts if that is his salary.

According to Forbes he earns $30m a year base salary and pulls in $20 a year in endorsements - total $50m

You all of course know that Arsenal was called 'The Bank Of England Club' and Tottenham were known as 'The Cheque Book Team' ?

Arsenal's opening bid for Auba fails :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

How much is this going to cost them?
Or will they end up walking away and having a mad dash at 11th hour?

Didn't Mourinho sell him to Arsenal at Madrid?

Ozil also had something in his book about Mourinho critisizing him (accurately) as a player that believes all he has to do in a game is deliver one beautiful pass then his job is complete and he can stop trying.

Mourinho had been sacked by Madrid by then. Ancellotti has just taken over and they bought Bale, the flip side to that was Ozil was allowed to leave.
