Essentially Arteta turned Arse down. LooL.

And is the idea here that the transfer arrangements weren't acceptable to Arteta, but are to Emery? That makes no sense. It's as if Arse are getting caught between two stools. On the one hand, appointing a Galactico manager; on the other, going for an up-and-coming one. Which is Emery? They're kinda getting a bit of both. That either points to muddled thinking, or an inspired choice.

The case for it being a muddled decision is backed up by the back-room structure Arse have put in place in the last 18 months. That structure is all set up for an Arteta type, not really for an Emery type. A lot of cooks making the broth there now, and with Emery not speaking English, it has the potential for messiness.

He looks an interesting pick, and has got a pretty impressive record for someone who's only 46, but this appointment has the faint whiff of confusion about it for me.

I don’t think any of their main targets wanted the job is the reason.

Emery is 3 for 3 being knocked out in the Champions League Round of 16. Once with Valencia and twice with PSG.

This guy couldn't get it done with one of the richest clubs in the world.

Genuine question, is Emery better than Wenger? I don’t know
What he did for Sevilla in Europe winning 3 Europa League titles in a row was impressive but he got Sevilla to finish 9, 5, 5, 7 in 4 years, he never got them to Top4.
In PSG he lost the league to Monaco in his first season, and even though Monaco was very good a team like PSG should’ve won it if you look at how much they spent. And in CL they bottled a 4-0 lead against Barca.

This season they won the league in style but they bought their rival best player and Neymar so it isn’t impressive and in the CL they got knocked out by Real.

Overall I don’t know if he’s the right man for them, better than Arteta but I can’t see Arsenal finishing in the top 4 for some years. The only way is if 2 of the Top 6 teams fails

And I forgot, Emery doesn’t speak English

I don’t think Emery is an awful appointment, but it’s so rushed.

For all that front about taking a considered, thorough approach at appointing a successor to a guy who led for 22 years, this is the epitome of panic buy.

Amazing. Hope it fails miserably.

Pretty underwhelming appointment.

It felt like Arsenal needed to make an impact with Wenger leaving, either with a fresh face who everyone could get behind (Arteta) or an established elite level coach (Allegri).

This is neither. I'd call it a safe choice but seeing as Emery doesn't speak English it's not even that. It's just a bit weird.

Arsenal appointing Dick Emery as their manager is entirely appropriate.

They are awful (but we don’t like them)!

One for the kids there.
