Personally I think this is a better appointment than some are making out. He's won ten major honours in just five years, four of which were with Sevilla, where he can't be accused of having millions to back him up - and at forty six he has time on his side to build a dynasty.

Frankly it is a better appointment than Arteta. The only question is whether or not Emery is the sort of guy who sticks around if things don't go according to plan or the pressure starts internally. He left both Sevilla and PSG of his own choosing, and at least the latter without seemingly having a job lined up. That, to me, is where the risk lies.

He didn't leave PSG of his own choosing entirely. He was going to be replaced regardless.

Is not speaking English a big deal? They've only got six English players in the squad - five if Wilshere leaves. Plus Poch didn't speak much English when he went to Southampton.

Better than Arteta but I think Allegri would have been a much better appointment. Or even Conte if they'd waited for Chelsea to sack him.

Agreed. They've done a decent job here of snatching victory from the jaws of defeat, he's seems the best available option by far.
The appointment of a cheaper guy with no previous experience would have kept the fans and board at loggerheads and the chaos and negativity around the club after the first defeat or two.
His great record in the Europa could be their route back into the CL.
A good horses for courses appointment that their fans seems happy with.

Smart and shrewd appointment by the Arse.

Not the obvious or glamorous choice but he’s young and he wins shit without the resources that the likes of Guardiola and Mourinho can’t cope without.

Obviously I hope he flops, but we underestimate him at our peril.

What did Emry win? The treble in the French league with PSG is a joke. My dog could manage that PSG team to win the treble. They spent like 700 million and he only won some French domestic trophies managing the one team in what is really a one team league and only had a 75% win rate with them. With Sevilla where he didn't have unlimited funds and quality opponents, he won a couple of Europa league which is not the same level as Champions league. He left PSG before the owners fired him. After spending that much cash on world class players, no way would they be happy with not winning, or looking like winning, Champions League.

Personally I think it is great news since he will not have a huge amount to spend with mediocre players in a really tough league with a lot of teams on par and superior to Arsenal. I really think this is the guy that will cement them as a mid table club or perhaps even see them fighting relegation. I reckon 1 season and he will be running back to France before they sack him just like he did with PSG.
