his record in spain/EL was very good....PSG he was par but he is a good signing.....Arteta would have been better for us to be honest
Really not par at PSG though, losing the league to Monaco, and doing worse in the Champions League than a much unfancied Blanc. Not really a success.

Failed at Spartak Moscow as well. Yes, did well at Sevilla and Valencia. Well at Sevilla not so much in the league, but did well in the cups. Valencia in terms of league position roughly par on what came before but in the context of financial problems he did well.

Very odd appointment for me. Arteta has the unknown factor, but he has everything to be a top top manager, very much more comforted by Emery, I mean the guy is a good manager by all means but hardly a miracle worker.

Apart from 3 back-to-back Europa Leagues.
With not particularly spectacular league results to go with it. Sampaoli revolutionized that side after he left.

Lets not forget of another manager with back to back UEFA cup wins, who came into the English league without speaking English. How well did he do?

Emery is not on the top list of managers currently available, and is a big risk, make no mistake about that. Did well at Sevilla and Valencia but took PSG and Spartak backwards.

I think the biggest problem is that Emery is taking over one of the poorest Arsenal squads (save a couple big names) in ages, with one of the worst possibilities to improve on the squad ever (stagnant transfer budget, explosive transfer funds). I think he'll fail.

I can't believe they had all time to line up some one and this is who they came up with? Like has been said he isn't a bad manager but it's kind of back of a beer mat type stuff isn't it.

I was actually pretty impressed when they were talking about arteta because it was so left field and bold.

I’d agree with you but my only fear is that they are the luckiest club ever and always fall on their feet.

The troglodytes in the press will be loving the headline potential. As am I.

Unai has a long reign and supersedes Wenger’s success:

Thanks for the Emerys.

Unai gets sacked after just a few games due to outcry by DT:

Short Term Emery Loss

Unai holds his first training session:

Jog My Emery

Unai is issued a vote of confidence / gets tired of the role:

Emery Board / Emery Bored

Unai loses his keycard for the training ground and has to wait to follow a youth team coach into the building:

Random Access Emery

I'd be annoyed if we had gotten this dude.
Seems like the old santini, Ramos approach.
No real identity, hasn't been all that special outside of some cups that aren't massively valued

People were surprised when they went for Wenger in 96. Sure, I’d like to see them go through as many managers as we had to but it would be just our luck if they struck gold on the first couple of attempts.

Not a car crash hilariously bad appointment, but nothing to worry about either. They’ll need to do better than this if they want to return to the top table.

I don't think it's a bad appointment tbh, much better than Arteta who had no experience at all...at least with Emery he's won trophies and knows how to win the EL, it may just be something they need to get back in the CL.

You will of course notice that I altered that before you posted. Perhaps quote correctly rather than bits from before they were edited less than a minute after posting? Point still stands though. For a team that is supposedly challenging to win Champions league, 3 Europa wins and a few domestic trophies with a team that let him buy his dream team, his record is hardly amazing.
