Im amazed he’s going. I thought he’d stay on, I really did.

Got a feeling they will struggle to get the top level managers around because of their squad. Mind you I guess we will now see if their players are actually good or if it’s because they aren’t coached/trained/managed properly.

In large Wenger has been a fantastic manager for Arsenal and he deserved recognition for that. He had his time though and he should probably have stepped down earlier.

Arsenals main problem is their squad. When you look at their squad you can see that they need a massive overhaul. How many of their current players are of top four quality? That's their real problem and a new manager will be spending a few seasons rebuilding the squad.

Not too worried about them for the foreseeable future.

Yep.. and I'd expect a situation similar to Man Utd post-Fergie where they go through a few managers before finding someone more long term. It's going to take some time for any new manager to break away from Wenger's legacy.

Maybe, but the difference is although Fergie left them with a squad on the way down they were still champions of England.

True, and they then lost a few players who retired soon after. The landscape is a bit different now and Arsenal will have to spend, spend, spend to counter the lack of CL football. That also includes salary offers to new managers. One of the stories just now talks about Luis Enrique wanting the same as Wenger is on. They also have quite a lot of players out of contract this season and next.

Yeah it’s not going to be simple for them, but 4th place will now be an improvement for them ( although I’m sure some of their self entitled fans will still think nothing but winning the league is good enough).

I think on the whole it’s good news for us. He had control of everything there. It will destabilise them no doubt. I wonder if they will announce his successor today as well.

I guess he had to go really, players and agents all know if he doesn't go this year he'll go next year and they'll want to know who is taking over, the club is bound to have come across this in the last year.

It is a weird time to announce it.

No doubt they will fall on their feet with the next appointment. They always get lucky.

A good day to bury news, just before the semi finals of 'their' FA Cup and before St Arseholes day as well.
(Alas that should have been against Brighton on Tuesday)

The way he has been thinning out the squad over the last year or so was maybe a clue. I think they have 7/8 players who are either out of contract or old/past it (Cazorla etc).

A good time for a new guy to come in, I just think they are half a team and a decade away from challenging for the title or even finishing above us.

I remember when Lineker left Spurs for Grampus Eight - Arsene was the man who bought him and I hated the man from that day. Lineker was one of the main reasons why I started loving Spurs. Edit; So it was ironic when Arsenal appointed him

Anyhow, Arsene has done fantastic work with Arsenal and you got to salute the man despite being the manager of Arsenal.
Wenger was still at Monaco when Lineker went to Grampus Eight, he didn't move there until Lineker left. Wenger was still at Monaco when we bought Klinsmann.

Why let something as simple as facts get in the way of a good rant, eh? :)

Definitely feels like you will never get long term managers like wenger and fergie at the top again.

I expect he'll get an emotional send off after the final home game, with all the hypocrite fans who have been baying for his blood applauding him and chanting only one Arsene Wenger.

So important they make the right selection to replace him or they could slip back even further. It's not like the new man will have an amazing pool of players to choose from either, it's going to be a long rebuilding process whilst all the time the fans are expecting success.

Hopefully this is the beginning of a long period of shite, starting with them not winning the Europa league
