All the money they have had in the bank over the past few years has eroded away due to football inflation. There is no point having cash reserves of 200m and seeing players prices sky rocket. Not being in the Champions League two years in a row has hit their revenue. They also ran down players contracts and saw their player assets value plummet. It's not a surprise to see this happening but at least they've done their business and they can get on with it.

Not totall Woolwich related but I noticed yesterday on a section of the KUMB website that West Ham have apparently drawn down a loan of £45 mill to assist with their recent buying spree.

Some of their fans are questioning as to why this should be so are they were supposed to be wealthy.

Totally missed Arsenal twitter claiming Giroud for the World Cup win after they sold him to Chelsea...

Hang on a minute there mate. If Croatia had won it, and Spurs social media had put out a message of congratulations to Luka, I think we'd have all seen that as completely fitting.

Admittedly they could have put a bit more thought into it, but congratulating someone who used to play for the club on winning the World Cup isn't exactly "claiming" them; this is actually the first bit of anything even approaching class that that mangy club has shown in years.

I agree about the gesture and would hope Spurs would have done the same but the whole from Arsenal to #FRA regular but missing the bit where he joined Chelsea after listing all his other previous clubs is a little bit claimy. :sneaky:

As you say yourself, they could've put a bit more thought into it. They really come across as trying to claim a winner's medal because he's basically still a Gooner anyway. Should've had a little more tact about them.

The sentiment is fine but they don't acknowledge that he isn't their player any more, which is weird.

Who is "they" though. It's just some guy doing their Twitter account.

Only missing Monreal Torreira lichsteiner xhaka welbeck. That’s a mid table squad. Only hope is Aubameyang and Lacazette absolutely rip it up.

To support your opinion I had a discussion this week with someone very close to a coach within the club and was told that they were shocked and worried about the lack of quality from a lot of the players there. I just don't know if this was pre-new players or not. But still :)

Goes to show how much of a dreadful job Wenger was doing with recruitment.

I think the litmus test is a 2nd xi. Ours would be mostly internationals. There’s would be no marks and kids. Whatever you say about the likes of Walcott Giroud Wilshere Sanchez cazorla mertesacker koscielny(seems fucked) ok a couple past sell by , but that’s still a lot of squad quality to lose since January.

Özil is really not doing himself any favors here in Germany.

There was a lot of fallout after he posed with Edrogan here, as a player representing Germany it was seen as not ok.

His latest comments do not close this chapter one bit and in my opinion make it worse.

Ozil and his new contract is one of life’s mystery’s. What ever had he done to earn such a fantastic new contract ?

They’ve already got all the talent at the top of the pitch, they’ve just bought soldiers, the types of players that do the nasty stuff. They’ll be much more compact next season.

Hate to say it but Aubameyang is going to score a hatful next season. They’ll be in the mix for top 4 for me.
Chelsea look like they might be the top 6 side that gets cut adrift this term.

Still miles ahead of 7th though ( then again I think Wolves are in the race for 7th! )

They just couldn’t lose Sanchez and Ozil while getting half empty stadiums would have been a PR disaster but ironically probably not a footballing one.

I think we'll see a status quo among the top 6. The same top 4 as last season, not necessarily in the same order, and Chelsea and Arsenal to miss out again. Arsenal might get a bit closer but not close enough IMO.

Breaking | Mesut Özil has announced his retirement from international football.

Mesut Özil: "The treatment I have received from the DFB & many others makes me no longer want to wear the German national team shirt. I feel unwanted & think that what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten."

He really goes to town in the full statement :-
