We all need to remember

"If you don't win anything, you
have had a bad season."

"Spurs have got to be the best in
the land, not the second best."

"It's no use just winning, we've got to win well."

"It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we of Spurs have
set our sights very high, so high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory."

“A lot of people ask me, ‘Kenny Powers you’re a giant star - you can get any woman. Have you ever paid for sex?’ The answer is yes, I have. Several times in fact. And it’s actually kind of cool. You can negotiate practically anything, and sometimes even just kinda do stuff in the moment you never agreed to pay for, and it goes by without much argument.”

Kenny Powers is a legend.

As much as I love the other quotes, I think this season is all about consolidating our position as a young team with a huge amount of potential.

I'd love a trophy (obviously), but a top 6 finish with Kane, Alli, Bentaleb, Pritchard, and Mason all having good seasons would leave me feeling very positive about the future of the club.

Add Onomah breaking through and winks getting a good look and Wmmer and Tripp stamping their mark on their positions to that and I'd be happy.

And let's not forget our boy tommy getting some minutes to show poch why he's valuable to us.

Carroll is someone I've had mixed feelings over. I tend to waver from 'he's a creative metronome that is exactly what we need', to 'he's a bit of a sap'. Hoping to see him get some opportunities in the new season as it's going to be make or break for him.

He just has to watch some vids of Valbuena to see how you do it at that sort of size..

You can see he's done some conditioning; he just needs to get the mental part sorted and become a bit of a tasty xxxx and hold his own.

Lamela did it, so he can.

I'm not sure Lamela did it successfully. No one wants Eric to come good more than me, but he's been a massive disappointment and might well be replaced by Berahino.

Saw the word 'journey' on the op and immediately though of a journey on a boat. Which then made me think that supporting Spurs is like someone promising you a world cruise but you end up with a there and back on the Woolwich fucking ferry.

He was a pussy when he first got here. Now he's kicking seven bells out of players. Some silly fouls for sure, but he's a totally different player, mentally/physically, than when he first arrived.

He's still trying to be too flash and is resistant to building his game from the ground up here; he'll have to sort that this season as the competition we now have in the squad will be unforgiving.

I love him and he truly is a class player but if he doesn't sort it out this season then that's it for him tbf.

The thing I will say is that when he gets a run of games under his belt he does begin to properly find his rhythm, so all is not lost. I still believe in him.

I think he's got some incredible skills in him. He just doesn't seem to believe in himself. He may have grown some muscles but he needs to grow some balls. Go out there and believe he's the best player on the pitch.

Unfortunately I think his confidence is too dented. The aggressive tackles are just his natural Argentine instincts rising to the surface.

The tackles are desperate for sure, he's trying too hard. He seems to be a highly strung personality type and is always on edge, so it might be hard for him to do but he must relax into his game and let it breathe. Once/if he cracks that he'll be properly off to the races.

He needs to just start enjoying football again. Everyone's forgotten about the 'Bale replacement' bollocks. I want to see him out there having fun - football's a fun game after all - and not thinking he's got 35k fans that expect him to pull rabbits out of hats every time he touches the ball.

Exactly. He is still very tense when he plays. I dunno, it really is up to him. Hopefully having the additional talent come in/through will take the self-imposed pressure off of him a little as there will be others to share the load of creating.

Like Soldado, he seems to overthink things. I still think Soldado is a fantastic player that has been crippled by confidence issues, and I can see parallels with Lamela. He's now got his first season under his belt (we can't count the first one as he was injured for most of it), so he should feel a lot more comfortable in the new season. Seeing as this is a guy who considered a Europa League game a comfortable enough situation to pull off a 'Rabona', I'd hope a more relaxed Lamela would have a lot to offer!

Just going to whack in this clip for the pure amusement of Pochettino's lack of reaction.

The thing is poch knows Lamela's got this sort of shit on toast, it's just unlocking the rest of it that must be so frustrating. They are compatriots as well so no communication excuses. It's all about how much patience poch's got and how well the new lads do. Big season for Coco.

That's the thing. Lamela (and Soldado for that matter) is a great player, playing badly. Having a compadre in charge should help in some way. If he still can't produce the goods after the next season he'll be moved on.

Those two have been fucking poor for the money we paid. If two years later anyone believes otherwise you are in the massively rose tinted minority. Lamela has always put it about, usually in the same breath as , "hes just fucking given it away cheaply again." Soldado, lbs for lbs is the worst signing in Spurs history. " good player playing bad" for two years???? Wake up.

Spurger King, ANOTHER consolidating season???

We are a million miles from the club in the OP. Ive never been so unbothered about the start of a season, and in some weird, contradictory kind of way that really bothers me. Weve signed 3 defenders. What a fucking joke.

I will let you suckers keep paying for the shafting we are getting. The slag in charge wont have me anymore.
