It's been fascinating seeing them decline over the last 8 years, surprising considering how dull they are.

The chairman backed O'Neill and as a result they built a huge wage bill, the 2nd higher wages to turnover ratio in the Prem for a while. Their net spend was big too and any money they got for Young, Milner etc was eaten by the terrible and expensive signing of Reo Coker, Harewood and the 11 players they let go on a free transfer.

Then they had the difficulty the likes of Newcastle and West Ham had. They had to tighten the purse strings after a period of poor financial management but their fans see them as a big club and have high expectations.

In hindsight Lambert was doing a better job than given credit for but it was deemed not good enough.

Villa have no long-term strategy and have not developed their academy sufficiently. They are now paying the price.

A lesson to all fans who think the chairman should always be funding the next big purchase.

It's just going to be weird not having them in it. I started following football in 1990 and have only ever known the top division with them and a small number of other clubs as ever present.

Still funny though.

Gone. Done. Finished. Washed up. They should spend the January window preparing for the Championship rather than trying to stay up because it won't happen. And it won't be easy for them to get back up.

Only six teams left that have been in the top flight since '92.

Ironically, Lambert would absolutely have been the man for that job.

Is it just me or is the fact that Villa are going down isn't getting the attention it deserves?

They're one of the small number of clubs that have been part of the Premier League since the beginning. A few years ago they were going toe-to-toe with us in the race to qualify for the CL. They're undoubtedly the biggest club in the Midlands, and have a pretty big following.

I've always seen Villa as a similar club to Spurs and Everton - a club with a rich history and a lot of supporters, but which has failed to achieve modern day success. The fact that they're obviously going down seems to have been accepted rather casually, when for me it would be one of the most notable relegations since Leeds thankfully vanished from relevant football.

Never used to have an issue with Villa until some twat called HoltLegend on 606 used to routinely troll the Spurs forum, followed by briefly living with a monumental fuckwit of a Villa season ticket holder. For me, Villa's pathetic form is one of the biggest and most amusing stories of the season.

Bloody hell. I remember Holt legend from 606. What a bell end!

Still, all clubs have them. It's a shame in many ways. I've never really had any reason to dislike the club. But I fear their relegation, which seems inevitable, may spell the PL not seeing them for quite some time.

Will be a sad day if Villa go down. The Premier League seems to be being slowly colonized by southern teams, and mediocre clubs like Bournemouth and Watford are replacing more historic clubs with bigger fan bases and the league is becoming poorer for it.

Man Utd
Man City
Liverpool
Everton
Aston Villa
Swansea
Newcastle
Sunderland
Leicester
Stoke
West Brom

Yup 'swamped' by southern teams..will have to 'roll eyes' ...ridiculous statement especially with Liverpool and Utd the only recent times dynasty teams. The teams that deserve to be there are there, there is no anti northern agenda.

It's not about an agenda. It's about Southern teams being more attractive propositions for investment and more attractive player destinations. Brighton and Brentford seem likely to be the latest poxy Southern clubs to replace large and established non Southern ones. If not this year then in the next couple of years. We could lose three this season.

Seems you have an agenda against southern clubs? The clubs in the north attract huge crowds and don't have the premium of costs in the south. I have a lot of time for Villa, Wolves etc but it's their own fault they are or will not be in the premier league, same as Leeds. Don't hate on success brother, I personally think it would be great to see Brighton in the EPL they have been building momentum slowly for years now and Brentford..why not? It's refreshing.

I'm a Southerner born and bred. I'd just rather see a league with clubs who have stadiums of at least 30,000 and are able to fill them. It's a novelty seeing clubs like Bournemouth in the PL but it'll quickly wear off.

Clubs are in the premier league on merit (apart from the gooners who never earned their place obviously). Ask yourself this, regardless of stadium. Would you rather watch a Bournemouth or a villa game?

If I were a Villa fan I'd be worried if Randy Learner remained in charge.

The guy has been a complete disaster; players brought in, youth development, managers appointed. Villa should not be in the position they find themselves.

There is every chance that they'll get relegated from the Championship, given Learner's track-record.

Just checked:

Villa have had only 6 league wins in 2015, from 37 league games.

5 of those wins were from last season.

Doubt they'll break the PL record for fewest points though, set by Derby who managed just 11pts.

Villa have got 18 games to go, to pick up 4 more points and as bad as they are I could see them scrapping 4 draws at least.

12pts! Woo-hoo :)

Arguably bigger club than us going down. Would be massive. I have no feelings towards them at all really.
