Is it just me or is the fact that Villa are going down isn't getting the attention it deserves?

They're one of the small number of clubs that have been part of the Premier League since the beginning. A few years ago they were going toe-to-toe with us in the race to qualify for the CL. They're undoubtedly the biggest club in the Midlands, and have a pretty big following.

I've always seen Villa as a similar club to Spurs and Everton - a club with a rich history and a lot of supporters, but which has failed to achieve modern day success. The fact that they're obviously going down seems to have been accepted rather casually, when for me it would be one of the most notable relegations since Leeds thankfully vanished from relevant football.

Never used to have an issue with Villa until some twat called HoltLegend on 606 used to routinely troll the Spurs forum, followed by briefly living with a monumental fuckwit of a Villa season ticket holder. For me, Villa's pathetic form is one of the biggest and most amusing stories of the season.

Glad they are going down. Been down the lower end of the league pretty mucb since O'Neill left. Find them a bit irrelevant now. Wish Tim was in charge still though. Be nice to see him get relegated.

It will take them some time to come back up too I reckon. A lot of good Championship sides will still be there next season.

I guess it would get more attention if anyone was in the least bit surprised, but it's been coming for 3 or 4 years. They stayed up by the skin of their teeth last season, then sold the player who kept them up.
I actually quite like Villa and have a couple of mates who support them, got to feel sorry for them.

I'm just hoping that Bristol City somehow stay up so I can pop down the road and have a good old laugh at Villa and their relegated supporters.

Yeah, it wasn't long ago that they were up there pushing for 4th with us. I think it shows that sustaining that challenge for as long as we have done, through multiple managers and high player turnover, is really not that easy.

There but for the grace of God.....

The Martin O'Neill years of 90% of turnover spent on wages was followed by a few years of major cutbacks and zero investment in the team. The result is what is happening to them this season.

It'll probably get more attention later in the season. Although it seems pretty obvious that they are going down it might be just a bit too early for the experts to make a big deal out of it as it's still faintly possible that they'll escape. Once the January window shuts we'll see where they are and how likely that escape is. At the moment you can't see them winning one game, let alone clawing back 11 points on Swansea.

I think it's sad that such a great old footballing name is going to be relegated. As OP says, I always think of Spurs and Villa as similar-ish clubs, and two of the classic names of English football. There but the grace of God etc.

I also think Remi Garde must be one of the weirdest appointments in years. At the very least any new manager should give his new club a temporary boost over his first few games - but Garde didn't even give Villa that, and now looks a less than inspiring figure on the touchline. I think they should probably have stuck with Sherwood if Garde was the best alternative they could manage.

Exactly this. They are a giant in the game, like Newscastle. But years of mismanagement eventually take their toll.

I remember Holt Leg End what a wazzock.

Like you it put Villa in a bad light for me, along with the Pompey twats, Charlton Charlies and look where they are.

The club has been badly run for ages, shows what an amazing job Levy has done for all his faults.

I don't think any manage coming in would have given them a spark, their squad is terrible tbh

C'est la vie.

Forest, Sheffield, Blackburn, etc. etc. etc.

Many clubs with fantastic histories have all been sent down and found incapable of coming close to previous glories.

What really interests me is how some small clubs like Bournemouth can carry on if they survive the drop.

In a way I'm upset that Tim Sherwood isn't going down with them. His face should be all over this. Sure, it's been going on a couple years now, but his appointment and subsequent moves really were the nail in the coffin.

I remember HoltLegend, what a fucking bell-end he was. Really deluded twit who spent more time on the Spurs section than his own.

Totally agree with your sentiments about Villa. I've also felt Spurs, Everton and Villa were similar in terms of history and stature, and if I were a Villa fan I'd be furious at the possibility of relegation. Everton and Villa should be consistently rivalling us every season. Everton have done well, considering their lack of funds, and have certainly rivalled us. In the last 10 seasons they've finished above us three times, so we've certainly been better, but they have been in and around and given us a challenge. Villa however, have been very poor.

I think being in London has helped us, or perhaps we've just been financially managed better. Perhaps it's just luck where we started pressing for top 4 at just the right time, and even getting that stint in the CL for one season. Perhaps Everton and us have benefitted from having very strong rivals in the form of Liverpol and Arsenal. I do feel if it were us or Everton getting relegated a bigger thing would've been made of it.

Holt was my introduction to the word WUM. Proper bell.

I'm quite happy to see Villa drop. Funny thing is there were quite a few on here who were praising the business they did during the window. I must admit I thought they would do better this season.

Will be a sad day if Villa go down. The Premier League seems to be being slowly colonized by southern teams, and mediocre clubs like Bournemouth and Watford are replacing more historic clubs with bigger fan bases and the league is becoming poorer for it.

They have been dodging relegation for quite a few seasons now and it's finally caught up with them.

Poorly run and terrible owner
