He also oversaw a mid season collapse twice and failed to manage a large adequately leading to a raft of disillusioned players.

Sure their were bad points as well and he probably left at the right time but when was the last time before harry we finished 4, 5, 4? And also got to 1/4 of champs league

I really don't totally agree. Do you remember when we had Crouchy upfront? Our midfield just wanted to launch at towards his forehead from any position on the pitch. I don't know about you but I don't consider that good football.

I also remember Crouchy scoring a few important goals and Rafa feeding a lot off Crouchy's knockdowns. When we had Rafa, Lennon, Modric, Bale etc, we were great to watch. Yeah for some reason we tailed off (probably our squad was too light on quality) but we played some amazing football. The CL campaign was amazing, my highlight of watching Spurs I would say.

Probably my point is that under Harry, when have we been a better team? Not now, I've been bored watching us this season, the game is about glory but for that to happen we need goals :)

Yes - finally someone else has said what i was thinking. Harry's team is remembered as playing 'great football' under him but it was hardly Arsenal standards was it. There was the constant use of long diagonal balls to Crouchy's head that seemed to be a key part of our tactics, it was not like we constantly played traingles round sides.

Maybe he's hated so much because of the fact that he proclaimed supporters of THFC as "idiots"?

Or maybe he's hated so much because he claimed that "they don't have a clue what they're on about", when supporters continually said Bale isn't a LB?

OR maybe he's hated so much because he shat on us and the club, whilst openly whoring himself out for the England job, and even offered Brendan Rodgers the job as his assistant?

And all of that before waltzing into Daniel Levy's office with the same scummy agent who Rooney used for a massive pay-rise at United, to try and screw Levy to the floor, via an improved contract for himself, 1 week after Levy had lost his mother?

Of course, it could be because he's a complete crook, but had a fucking good lawyer (or enough money to get away with his dog being a shit liar)?

Or maybe it's because he's lauded as this excellent manager, almost messiah like, but has one just one trophy in his short 37 year management history, and has had multiple relegations along the way?

Just throwing a few suggestions out there

Just like AVB appears to have done, Redknapp sealed his own fate.

I think the last sentence is the key one, they both made mistakes which cost them their jobs. On-wards and upwards eh? I just want to enjoy watching us play again and see some goals!!

Honestly, Redknapp was a long way off being perfect but a whole lot better than any of our last 7 or 8 incumbents. He fucked us and himself over in the end. Paid the price. Can't love him for it but certainly don't hate him. If I had to choose between Sherwood and having Harry back I know what I'd do.

The bold bit. The answer you're seeking = Because half the squad was ostracised, ignored and left to rot, whilst the same 14 or 15 players were continually selected, over and over again. So many players were simply hung out to dry, yet AVB was slaughtered because he dared to, seemingly, exclude BAE and Adebayor, because they don't conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Bentley, Corluka, Bassong, Gomes, Kranjcar, Pletikosa, Hutton, Pavlyuchenko, and even Pienaar = All players that were basically cast aside & ignored by Redknapp. The quality was there to maintain the gap we had over Arseanal with just 10 games left, the manager simply chose to totally ignore them.

Blimey, there's really not a sniff of who we may appoint, even last time we managed to narrow it down to three names. Hopefully they'll be another announcement after the west ham game.

A long diagonal ball to Crouch's head is an improvement tactically to passing the ball side to side in your own half 37 times before shooting in to row Z from 30 yards out.

Don't forget Bale!
He can lie all he likes but we all know he only got in the team, at left back, because Benny got injured.
Had he not been injured (or not gone to ACN) Bale would have ended up leaving.

I partly see your dad's point, to be fair. Hoddle definitely had a problem with the fact that he was still technically a better player than 90% of the squad we had at the time and, according to several reports, was a bit of a show-off in traning with a "look, this is what I want you to do, see me doing this, it's easy" sort of attitude.

But I agree with you in that I don't think he'd be a good manager for us now regardless of the players' abilities, he's just a bit ... off.
I think Hoddle's talent and the fact football came too natural to him in general results in a weakness of him as a manager

Its a flaw of his personality also that he allowed his skill to isolate him from players when I suppose it should have been a strength from a coaching stand point i.e. teach players or at least command their respect because of it.

As a result I don't think his flaws as a man manager will fix themselves just because he coaches superior standard of players - his flaws would just present themselves in another way (Gazza and him didn't exactly get on great in spite of Gazza's footballing talent)

I am certain that if Hoddle were to come in again it would end in tears again - great player, not so great manager

I concur (y). It's no secret that Bale was off on loan, Birmingham being one of the destinations he could've ended up at (according to McLeish). I think it was stated (by ITK's on here) that he was almost off to Notts Forest, too?

Are you suggesting he succeeded purely because he was given time?

There are a lot of contextual things that seem to happen in successful sports franchises and not in others (I'm plannign to write some research on tis at some point). Time is one of them but the manager has to bring qualities which inspire trust and let the owners give them time. AVB hasn;t demonstrated those qualities outside Porto
