I don't feel anything towards AVB, just meh. He's not even 40 years old and has managed to get over £15 million in the bank by performing poorly at Chelsea and Tottenham respectively. 2 years work and £15 million in the bank, he must pinch himself every morning he wakes up.

He reminds me of the guy that Leonardo Dicaprio played in the film Catch Me If You Can........... Frank Abagnale.....the only thing stopping him from racing cars at the minute is the fact that he hasn't learned how to drive yet.....maybe not because he couldn't play football and still managed to talk his way in.

90%? Now you're just being silly. You said 'no coach of a relatively big team wants that', then said 'top jobs pay top salaries, more than 90% of managers would take the Tottenham job if offered in a heartbeat.'

Brendan Rodgers turned us down for god sake.

So what are we? A 'relatively big club' (agree, but no more than relatively), or a top job? (Massively disagree). You see where your argument falls down? That would mean we have technically only been a top job since we employed Ramos? Seeing as we weren't paying that much money before we made such a 'dizzying offer' in his own words. I think this is where that argument falls down, in world football, as said, none of the jobs Villas-Boas has had have been top jobs, Chelsea apart, it's second tier stuff, which he's living off the back of his 1 successful year with the best team in Portugal. He's a very clever man, and knowing that he'll get instant success there will repair some of the damage he's done to his career.

Here's a list of Zenit's coaches since 2006:

Dick Advocaat
Luciano Spalletti
Andre Villas-Boas

Top job that attracts the creme of management? Not a chance.

You're mistaking top teams with top jobs. If a team pays extremely good, competes under the world spotlight each year and has demonstrated it can challenge for important things, then why can't it be considered a top job?

BTW, Rodgers turned us down... because Liverpool wanted him (yes, I know last season he was bragging about not having accepted our offer while we were in turmoil under the Sherwood days, but he isn't fooling anyone. Had Liverpool not shown any interest in him, its very unlikely he would have turned us down).

And do I also need to remind you AVB was being offered the PSG job just 5 months before we sacked him? Isn't that a top job too?

And I'm well aware of most things do to with our defence, you get a much better overview being there than you do watching it on TV. That's obviously not your fault, but it rings true as to why you have the thought processes that you have.

Say again?

While winning a treble in the process. (y)

Well you've sort of proved the point, neither us or Zenit challenge for important things on the world stage, so we're not top jobs by your reckoning either.

I'm so glad Rodgers turned down our advances, whenever they came, although whether or not PSG actually wanted AVB or not is of course hearsay.

Unfortunately, you're still not really proving anything that we don't already know.

And you know Sherwood's record was better, right? And I didn't like him either.

Both Zenit and Spurs have proven they can make it far into European cups, Zenit actually won the Europa league about five years ago, I'd say that's important.

Im also glad Rodgers turned us down, I honestly don't like that guy.

But I don't think it was hearsay about PSG wanting AVB, I remember they actually went public about it.

Unfortunately, you're still not really proving anything that we don't already know.

What is it that you want me to prove? That the Tottenham and Zenit jobs are top jobs in the world football frame? I already did, you just don't want to see it. Maybe we're not at the top of the top, but we still are at the top. Do you really think all those guys coaching in Ukraine, Colombia, South Africa, etc. wouldn't come running if Levy offered either of them the job?

And you know Sherwood's record was better, right? And I didn't like him either.

So? It was just marginally better, who gives a fuck?

Under Sherwood we were a complete mess, under AVB we weren't. Which means we were never going to make any progress under Sherwood, while under AVB we may have been able to achieve it (I actually think we were already on the path of progress at the time AVB got the sack).

Not really, the Uefa Cup wasn't a prestigious competition and it was won by beating Rangers:rolleyes:. Then look at the other teams in the finals around that period, Middlesborough and Fulham. All of those british teams aren't top league teams anymore.

Europa League has now become more prestigious as teams want it more then at that time

Sherwood we were a mess but under AVB we resembled the titanic. From a footballing pov it was worse than Ramos.

Path of progresso_O, we were getting worse

Improvement from one point to another.

Still think it just wasn't a match, we never gave him the players he needed to do the job.

Sounds like one of those managers who can only work with a large kitty to buy players. Nice work if you can get it.

I agree. Sven being another one. You can almost guarantee success, but it will cost you. I like that we have a "coach" - hopefully it's a cheaper way of doing well.

Down to us fans to support and stay behind the manager.
It will take time and patients.

It won't be easy for some.

British fans not caring about it is not the same thing as not being a prestigious competition. It certainly was prestigious enough for teams like Barça, Inter or Juve to take it seriously when they had to play it.

So you mean AVB's Spurs will be remembered for ever and will inspire Oscar winning romantic epics? And yet you refuse to admit just how awesome AVB actually is.

WHEN?

This is such a stupid statement since you named 2 italian clubs and the fact Serie A has lost a CL place because they didnt take Europa league seriously.

They may of taken it seriously before the expansion of the CL but since then no one big team has taken it seriously. That was further shown by ac milan fielding a second string against Portsmouth and not beating them despite being losing half the team.

2004
Barcelona knocked out by Celtic (barcelona had players like Ronaldinho, xavi, Luis Enrique and etc.)
Inter knocked out by Marseille (inter had some great players much better than marseille)

2008
Villarreal knocked out by Zenit

2009
AC Milan knocked out by Werder Bremen
Valencia knocked out by Dynamo kyiv

2010
Juventus knocked out in quarter finals by Fulham

Big teams never cared about the Europa league and is part of the reason italy is struggling
