Would be another Capoue or Paulinho. Just not what we need and not attuned/suited to our system.

I don't think we can easily nor should upgrade on our current Dier, Alli, Mason, Bentaleb quartet. We've never had it so good

Cannot agree with that at all. In what sense? Individuals or as a unit?!

Have you not been paying attention we offered approx £20 million for Witzel and £22 million for Berahino according to media reports.. So the money is obviously there... We always pay in Levy instalments (over 5 years) and we sold at least five players who were on big wages..
Do you think we're having a debate? An argument?

We are not.

I have proof in the fact that we've done this for a few years running now.

You can try and use hypotheticals and situations involving reports and yadda yadda. Fact is those deals some how do not come off. I'm right, we do not exceed our sales. That's simply the way it's been.

The big money deals for players that would put us over this spend for players like Moutinho, Schneiderlin, Musacchio, Berahino, etc. etc. etc. year after year magically never seem to come off.

A few years running is hardly a life time, not everything remains the same forever.

I believe we made genuine efforts to get Witzel and Berahino

He's 26 now a veritable pensioner in our squad.
Just let go of emotion and put him in a retirement home already.

Hopefully Levi has changed his way of thinking as balancing the ins/outs transfers will only get us so far.. Even if we spend £20 million net on transfers a season it would make a big difference to us...

Depends what we spend it on.

Bust our load adding squad options to our deepest position while neglecting other positions with other very clear needs could leave us in a real lurch.

Obviously spend on quality who can challenge for the first team not suggesting squad players as we have youngsters who can fill in...

Wouldn't surprise me if Arsenal weren't interested in Witsel in January, they desperately need a proper CM.

I think the difference between just getting top 4 (harder next season) and pushing for the title is the addition of pure quality above the quality we already have.

For me, Everton showed a dip in that position from when the Moose was out. Carroll did 'good', you'd hope Mason could maybe do better. However if Moose was there that draw could have been a win. It's the upgrade we don't 'need' but could def help. In that instance I put my love for the home grown spurs boys aside and trust the scouts.

To be honest I didn't want VDV for the same reason, as I didn't think we really needed another forward at the time.

As Poch has said we should always look at players that would improve us Dier looks tired and we are only half way through the season. Witzel would be a good addition as he already plays with Toby, Verts, Dembele and Chadli for Belguim..

We do very much need another DM, even though Dier has made the position his own. He needs rest some time and also the addition of a quality player behind him will help push him to even greater heights at the position. Witsel can bring stability to the side if Dier, god forbid, loses all form or goes out injured. He is also someone we can bring on as a sub to regain control of the game when we start to lose it. Depending on cost, it could be a solid transfer. All this being said, we need to get in another striker first before to turn to other areas of the squad.

Have we all just written off Bentaleb & Mason?

Quality over quantity. He is a very good player and you can never have too many of them.

It looks like Fazio is on his way. An injury to Alds then the best move would be move Dier back there and have the youngers as back up as I do not see us getting another CB before the summer.
