YP Lee was the best LB in my opinion and I'm 46. Atouba was possibly better defensively and in an attacking sense and was equally comfortable on the ball. But he didn't say cool stuff.

Lee probably was the better defender but BAE smashes him going forward and with his delivery

I liked Toobs and he was comfortable on the ball but he wasn't as good as Benny IMO and he was even more nuts in his doodling

Benny for me all round

Atouba tried the same shite as Benny and got away with it less. The whole ground turned into nervous wrecks when he was on the ball. Give me Benny any day, over both of them.

When Ekotto nutmegs their CF on his own penalty spot he'll be fit to lace Atouba's audacious boots.

I honestly think Ekotto is a superb footballer technically. Fantastic going forward and when he's in the mood he does defend very well.

Still prone to some silly mistakes and bad decision making but I think its becoming less and less frequent (although Chelsea away wasn't a good game)

i love benny but i what i do find strange about him is that he can play some unbelievable passes through the centre of the pitch & yet his delivery from wide is nothing short of abysmal....its shocking!!

however...i think he is very very switched on in a "technical defending" fashion & gets free kicks etc because of it..

a much better defender than people realise & a much worse attacking full back thgan people realise also imvho..

all in all though...top 3 left back in the country

He is indoubtedly the best LB Spurs have had in my lifetime (32 years). I don't think anyone could argue with that.

Disco Benny is the absolute best and has been my favourite player since he made the position his own. I play in the same position so maybe I am a bit biased but then I tend to watch other left backs as well and none in the EPL are fit to lace his boots. All in my humble opinion of course......for the record, there are plenty of other fans of other clubs out there that rates him very highly and yet our own cannot do the same. I suppose I am also being hypocritical now as I don't rate some of our other players very highly like Jenas and Bentley for instance.

Probably, not quite King or Dawson, and Defoe to an extent if we forget he went Pompey for a bit!

He signed along with Lennon and Hudd didn't he?

BAE was the season after. He might have played more games than both though he missed over a year I think when he first signed.

Can you just elaborate on those stats. Is he 3rd in assists on out team or for LB's in the league or what ?

I don't think he gets scapegoated at all, I think he gets a lot of leeway because he's a bit of a dude. Everyone, even his critics acknowledge that he is technically a very good footballer who is very comfortable on the ball, but the problem is and has always been he has a slightly casual attitude to defending sometimes and this can be a major drawback in a defender.

He hasn't always offered a whole lot in the opponents third either. For me, if he could improve what he does at either end of the pitch, particularly the defending end, he'd be very, very good.

I can understand why he's our first choice, but I honestly think he's a little over rated as a complete package by many on here, and his personality has a lot to do with it.

This is bollocks. The bloke makes mistakes but who doesn't and fewer and fewer nowadays. If he could improve, he'd be better. Wow what a pearl of wisdom.

It's rubbish about his personality or image. Most people were praising him as he was starting to improve under Redknapp long before his media image of an intelligent, humble man started to emerge. It's great that he's like that, but I just care about what he does on the pitch in terms of how good a footballer he is.

He's a mysterious creature, just when you think he's over doing stupid things in dangerous areas he does it again. You can see him panicking on occasions and it just worries me, he has a lot of his game he can improve on.

He's not all there sometimes, it's incredibly frustrating, especially when you've seen him have games where he looks utter top drawer. He definately needs more competition for his position IMO. Maybe that will give him a shake, Rose isn't up to it there for me.

I don't think it's bollocks, and I love BAE. I think he's really good, but some of us definitely overrate him - although I think that's principally a reaction to many other clubs' fans underrating him.

He was clearly told to get right up Routledge's arse, and I loved the job he did. Except, there was that silly two-footed challenge that he could have got a red for, and on at least two occasions he got caught ball-watching and out-of-position at crucial moments that could have cost us a goal.

You're right, everyone makes mistakes, I just think that Benny makes silly and potentially crucial ones worryingly often. Luckily he's a very good footballer and that more than makes up for it in my eyes. It's just frustrating when you see him switch off and you know exactly what's going to happen, and often the positional mistakes are so basic that we wouldn't even make them ourselves.

I think benny is top notch, easily top 5 LB in the Prem, possibly top 3. His technique is sublime, he creates/starts a lot of moves with his balls down the line to Bale, Modric or Adebayor, or inside (especially to Modric), his crossing is good and defensively is pretty good, more so when you consider he doesn't get the greatest help from Bale.

Yes, he does get caught trying to play it out from the back on occasion, but then would you rather he just lumped the ball into the stands?

He does need to sharpen up his defending in the penalty area but there aren't many better than him and I'm happy he is our first choice LB. The fact he seems a pretty cool chap is a bonus.

I do feel that we sometimes pick at the one or two faults in a player's game, make a big deal out of one or two misplaced passes, then laud someone we've seen three times on the la liga highlights or similar. It's almost as if familiarity breeds contempt (and the flip side of this can be seen with Lennon. He's been out injured and gone from being a quick winger with no end product to the messiah whose absence has been the sole cause for our poor run). End of the day, we have a very good team and there aren't many players that would be an upgrade on what we have (and those that are would cost a fortune). It's a good time to be a Spurs fan

He is definitely well over rated by our fans,at the level we are currently at and the next level we would like to reach.................he is a weak link.

Technically he is very good and he can defend but his mental strength and lack of concentration lets him down.

I am of the belief that to play the Spurs way requires some character, else you become like Chelsea, a humourless machine that grinds out results (sometimes).
