Bale misses out on Uefa Best Player

Gareth Bale, who has been valued at £100 million-plus by Real Madrid, has failed to make the 2013 Uefa Best Player in Europe shortlist.

The award is voted for by select journalists from Uefa’s member associations, and with the second round of voting completed, Tottenham Hotspur’s want-away star has been knocked out of contention.

Bale came in at number eight as the longlist of 10 was reduced to three.

Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery stay in contention.

Robin van Persie, who scored 26 goals last season as Manchester United won the English Premier League title came in at number 10.

The winner will be decided after another round of voting on August 29.

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta won the award last year.

Er, no he did make the shortlist at number 8, he just didn't make the final 3

Basically, the press trying to sensationalise a bit of a non-story

The headline could quite easily have read, "Bale and Van Persie are in Top 10 players in Europe 2013"

But why do that, when there's some negativity and controversy to create?

I'm probably of a minority here, but i really don't rate Ribery that much. I think there are A LOT of better players than him in European football let alone the world (I know this list is only Europe)

If you are not in the semi-final of the UCL then UEFA don't want to know about you... oh and unless your Messi or Ronaldo then you are pretty much there to make up numbers anyway (with the odd exception).

Other than Messi and Ronaldo all the other players played in the CL final.

If anything it highlights what we know Bale is the best player in Europe after Messi and Ronaldo and CL finalists(which says alot that only the two teams that made the CL final had better seasons than Bale who plays for a Europa team lol)

Ribery deserves to win. He was the best player in a treble winning side, if it goes to Ronaldo or Messi then it's a meaningless award and they should be embarrassed to accept it.

Personally I think Robben deserves it more than anyone

Reason why is 12 months ago, you could argue he cost Bayern at least 2 trophies:
Bundesliga(In the title decider which if won it would take Bayern ahead on GD), he played Lewandoski onside, Missed a pen and missed a sitter
Pokal cup, played better but no great either
Missing Penalty CL Final

Then he was hated by his own country for being a arsehole and then he was booed by bayern fans as well, to then within a year perform better than ever and win all 3 trophies and for the first time ever changing his style of play for the team and track back, well
