Who's better? he's scored more free kicks in a week than ronaldo has this season. The legendary free kick takers are barely playing any football(del piero, juninho, becks, dinho) and messi, while is getting better at them still isn't anything special. Reus is the only one we could actually have a serious debate about.

You're nuts if you think you can find 19 better free kick takers than him in the world, absolutely nuts.

Top free kick takers don't go around scoring 10 of them a season. That's only in Fifa, they only score around 5 or so and that's in a good season.
dude, Messi has at least as many as Bale this season, and probably about 8 or 9 in the past year. if he "isn't anything special", then Bale most certainly isn't either...

Apart from the goals, what I like most about Bales' new found skill is that I think it will make teams play differently against us. Teams will be much more wary about giving away free kicks, which will hopefully mean more chances in open play. Our horrendous corner success ratio backs up my theory, because I reckon teams think they(us) are shite at corners lets just clear the danger, don't matter where it goes just get the tackle/header in.

last season messi scored 3 free kicks. Bale has just scored that same amount, in a week! Don't know how many he has this season but I'm pretty sure it isn't more than that.

Don't forget that Ronaldo and messi take way more free kicks than Bale because of the dominance of their teams and the divers they have. Honestly Reus is better than those two at free kicks.

Messi has scored 8 free-kicks in the last 12 months, 5 of them this season, it's really as simple as that. Bale suddenly scoring 3 in a week doesn't change that in the slightest, and neither does it make him the best in the world.

Yeah did all the time under Harry and with Brad in goal.

He would sprint back last minute. It wasn't like he positioned himself there the whole time, allowing opposition players to get position in the 6yd box. I remember him nodding 1 or 2 away.

Wtf?
Can people not read, the comment made was that RONALDO was the best free kick taker, no mention of Bale, who is improving.

But RONALDO is definitely the best at this point in time.

"definitely"? I disagree strongly. he takes more free-kicks than anyone else in football, by far, and scores relatively few. when they go in, they look amazing, but more often than not they end up in the wall or in the stands.

I've always thought his technique has an element of hit-and-hope in it, as in he's not really aiming for a particular area when he hits them, the aim is to hit them as hard as he can, generating as much swerve and dip as possible, and letting the ball do the rest.

Correct but don't remember the nodding away though.

The great Rivelino used to practise 100 free kicks a day every day. He was the free kick king

Greatest free kick taker ever (IMO) was Sinisa Mihajlovic:

But Bale is an impressive embodiment of "practice makes perfect". The lad's a machine and his dedication to his sport and the will to improve is fantastic.
