Must be a few around who remember that game - youngsters might only know Barca as the silky footballers of today that night they kicked Spurs or the field. The crowd singing 'Annimals Annimals' and I swear that a copper at the Paxton end grabbed the ball back from them when we had a corner and they tried to shield it away from Spurs to stop the corner being taken.

Clemence didn't make many mistakes apart from that night and on his debut in the Charity shield

Awful game, I hated Barcelona for many years after that game. Kicked us off the pitch that night.

My dad often tells me the story of how a Barca fan had ended up in the Spurs section and was behind him giving it large, so dad turned around and threatened quite visually to skewer him with his brolly.

I was there and if there was VAR then th game would have been abandoned due to Barca only having 7 men on the pitch - disgraceful reffing but not unexpected those days !

Spanish football back then wasn’t for the faint hearted

Whether it was The Beast of Barcelona Rafa Nadals Uncle Miguel Angel Nadal or the Butcher of Bilbao Andoni Goicoechea!

It is why I dislike Barcelona to this day. It is probably hard for younger supporters on here to even begin to grasp how fucking bad they were. Never mind red cards if they'd done half as bad on the street they'd have done time, bastards. Must say I am grateful to find I'm not alone.

i was at that game, it was absolutely mental, i think after about 30 minutes Robbo took matters into his own hands and started giving it back, they were just horrendous from minute 1
i think we should have got through in the away leg, had a perfectly good goal disallowed, dirtiest team i have ever seen

I was at that game, pissing down with rain and we went 1 down after it went straight through Clemence’s hands.
We went batshit mental when we equalised though.

The most abiding memory I have of the game though was when Roberts went on one of his marauding runs through midfield when a Barca player went in with a slide tackle, managing to bury his studs in Robbo’s stomach... Roberts was fully upright at the time!

It was, without a doubt, the most disgusting display of outright thuggery on a Football pitch I have ever witnessed, and I played Sunday league around Welwyn Garden City for years!

we were by far the better team over the two legs but Clem's howler and the poor reffing somehow robbed us. Fkin animals indeed.

I only forgave them a tad when they killed the Gooners dream in Paris.

I was there that night. I didn't realise I'd have to wait all these years before seeing us play them at home again.

it was blatant body checking and fouling, I'm sure they had 1 off, but should of had 3 or 4 sent off.

I was behind the goal when Clem let it slither through his hands. Didn't think at the time it would have been
a pivotal moment.

Unfortunately, their thuggery was rewarded when they won the Cup-Winners' Cup. Villa won the European Cup the following week, so they faced each other in the Super Cup the following season. Villa copped much the same treatment as we did, so there was at least some slight justice when Villa won the trophy.

Barcelona staying at the Wembley Novotel. Hope there’s someone who fancies setting off the fire alarm at 3am.
