in amongst all the criticism from fans and the mayor of Liverpool, THIS is the one that will really sting.

I don't see what's controversial about it. Some people may be bitter but it's his career, he can do whatever he wants with it. He doesn't owe anyone allegiance. If they offered him more money then fair enough.

I'm sure the chavs were also offering him more money in the summer too, but he turned them down then. So a bit unfair to critisise him now

Probably had an agreement with them so they get him cheaper in Jan and pay him and hi agent a bit more money

love these remarks....particularly whether Conte will be there and noting that Diego won't be coming

Disappointed as I thought he would suit Spurs and visa versa. Under Poch I thought he would really develop as a player. Either we didn’t try hard enough to sign him or he decided on the mega bucks at Chelsea. We shall see if he has made the right decision.

What a silly pointless argument. Essentially he could have gone to Spurs for less money and the same risks, Poch going and the next manager saying you’re not good enough.

He knows no more than the rest of us about what will happen to Barkley at Chelsea.

A real shame. Would have been great to see what Poch could have done with him as seemed a good fit to be Dembele's natural successor.

Conte is likely to leave more than Poch is.

We probably didn't try hard enough. He is still in recovery mode. The February period (Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus) is when we needed reinforcement, but it is doubtful whether Barkley will be match-fit enough. Lamela is available, besides. No doubt our management team decides to wait until the off season to assess our needs. Still, could be a missed opportunity.

Agree. Money may not be the primary motivator, but surely can't be ignored as an important consideration. And the Chelsea/Spurs wage disparity could amount to a significant sum over the length of a contract for a person who very likely has limited qualifications to take beyond a relatively short earning career.

If he believes he will get game time, and he probably believes in his own talents (he is a quality, quality player) then going to Chavski is not a bad option. He is not guaranteed minutes at Spurs.

Would have been a luxury player, in the sense that we would have bought him despite not really having a tremendous need for him.

Great potential before his injury, I would have loved to have seen what Poch would have gotten out of him. Now I’m not so sure, he’s not even fit yet and probably wouldn’t have made an impact on this season for us, if he wants to go to the WC then I think there’s a potential for him to rush himself back and cause more damage

Oh well, that'll larn him.

Honestly though I don't get the furore around Barkley, I think he's very overrated, he's no better than what we already have, and tbh I see him struggling to make Chelsea's starting XI with any regularity.

Big fat meh.

He will get more money at Chelsea but that was true in the summer but it didn't convince him then.
What convinced him now is that it seems they wanted him more.
