Strange deal if true at the price mentioned. In May we were linked at his release clause of £12-14 million pounds if im not mistaken. Its also then rumours of Wanyama's injury surfaced and he was up for sale.
My guess would be that we were interested but he wasn’t first choice. While we were bartering for first choice he used our interest to get himself a new contract with the club inserting this release clause.

In today’s money 25M is almost a punt. Like a 10M player was 2-3 yrs ago.

This is how myths begin. Hasn't he had just one serious injury plus complications from that one injury?
You've acknowledged yourself that he had complications, which were reported to have involved a potentially long term issue. He has therefore been prone to injury since return from the initial one and is likely to continue to be (if reports are believed).

Anyone know much about him? Beyond a couple of games at the WC
He likes to eat Romaine lettuce and really hates Colemans mustard. He hates River Plate and Arsenal. He once met Marco Van Basten at Clacton On Sea but Van Basten ignored him for Street Fighter 2 arcade machine in a chip shop

Skipp?? a kid who's never played for the first team??

I'm not fond of boca players, but this comparison is ridiculous. Barios offers a lot more than Skipp right now

I agree but we’re not likely to see much of Barrios until he’s adapted to Poch in season 19/20 even if he joins, at which stage he’ll be a few months short of his 26th birthday and also likely close to being at his peak already. Skipp will have just turned 19 by then and his ceiling is far higher as a technical footballer and should he be given game time to develop that Barrios would take, so I’d rather invest in him for next year and go for another midfielder who also has a higher technical base than Barrios

usually like to see [insert player name] vs videos on youtube as they give the best representation of a player. There are plenty on Barrios, as he's seen as a cult figure for Boca. Most of the games i've seen in the Argentinean League are okay, nothing that I think warrants our interest but it was his game against Barca that impressed me the most in the pre-season. Didn't seem to let the quality of the opposition faze him and tbh could be a reason why he's touted to do well in a better league

OK, so I just watched a couple of those. Totally agree with you. His standing tackling is good and he's aggressive and niggly, but I don't really understand why we might be in for him.

That's one way of seeing it. Another is that he has a chronic problem which kept him out for the last two months of the season in which it originated, the entire second half of the season thereafter, and which everyone seems to acknowledge will never completely go away.

I rate Winks but it would be incredibly risky to have him as the only midfielder of his type in the squad. There's more than enough room for a genuine Dembele replacement as well.

Doesn't remind me one single bit of Dembele. Maybe similar to Wanyama but Barrios is nowhere near the footballer Moussa is.

Pretty sure Poch has a lot of connections in argentina - and if they admire Barrios (seemingly a lot Boca Fans do), I can see Poch wanting to get him in. Especially as he fits the physical attributes that Poch loves in his DM/CMs

Barrios was an absolute **** in England-Colombia World Cup game. Really horrible and at the time I said I didn't want a player like him at our club.

But I guess now I can forgive him, high stakes, very emotional etc. But I didn't like what I saw from him that game.
I have to admit I liked him just because of that. Imagine what he will do to Arsenal and Chelsea lol

Weird how this guy seemingly has become such a strong link to us over several windows now. Ben Pearce I would deem quite reliable, so I guess he's sitting on some information to say this. Have we actually been linked to anyone by one of our somewhat reliable journos?

His release clause was 18m dollars before August when they increased it to 23m dollars

Was a lot of talk that they wanted to keep hold of him until January and then a deal would be done, think that is why the release clause only went up a little bit

Hercules said there was truth in the rumour.
