Joey Barton has been refused a visa so can't take part in Newcastle's pre-season US tour.

In 2008 he was jailed after admitting assault in Liverpool city centre and was also given a suspended sentence for an assault on a team-mate at Manchester City.

Newcastle United confirmed that striker Nile Ranger, who has a conviction for robbery, had also been refused a visa.

If convicted within the past five years, the USA refuses to grant visas.

Barton is a disgrace to mankind, let alone football. I think he should be exiled.

Personally I don't think you should be allowed to play if you have a conviction of any severity (and by that I mean anything over a driving offence). Unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as where someone has received a statutory conviction for an offence carried out without malice or intent, I think it should be classed as conduct unbecoming a professional footballer and they should be prevented from playing, at least until the conviction is spent.

I didn't realise Ranger had been nicked for robbery. What an utter wanker.

Both Gallagher brothers and Johnny Vaughan were burglars if I recall. Or was Vaughan a dealer? Either way, scum. Nice now, though.

Vaughan was a dealer - as was Tim Allen of Toy Story!

It was armed Robbery when he was a kid IIRC, think he was at Palace before it happened.

I'll let him off if he was really young. I suppose it's a success story that he excelled at footie and became a prem player, getting him off the streets etc.

I thought it might've been that. I actually think he's really funny, I know he's marmite but I like him. Just riles me that at one point, he was obviously a wanker  Gallaghers were worse though.

I think he was 15/16 so he knew what he was doing, I do agree, though, that it's good he's off the street and he doesn't seem to be causing any trouble now.

I've sat pondering for a while and it still escapes me. Why is this in Spurs Chat?

It's all this hunting around without the usual search facility and I got the wrong thread - it's my befuddled old brain. Perhaps it can be transferred to the General Footy thread by an obliging Admin person...

He is from Tottenham... But he supports Arsenal. And he has an attitude that you will find very familiar!

Seconded, Vaughan always makes me laugh in the mornings, especially when doing his German accent - he does really good accents!

By "nice" I assume you mean "rich", yes?

What, like, six?

"Your honour, I only broke into his house cos he had some well nice Ben 10 shit"

He's into scat?

On reflection, that's three posts in a row having a pop at Bomber. Maybe he's upset me in some way.

To be fair, the 'nice' was sarcastic and I won't lie, scat entered my mind too when I read the familiar comment. As for Ranger, well, I'm quite sure I wouldn't be so empathetic to his situation if I'd dealt with him myself. No doubt he was a complete **** but hey, it's all about second chances and making the best of wh..zzzzzzzzzzz
