From the BBC: The Football Association will not take any action against Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton over his challenge on Sunderland's Dickson Etuhu.
Barton went in with his studs high and the pair clashed afterwards but no foul was awarded by referee Martin Atkinson.
"Whilst it is clear the officials did not see the full extent of the incident they did see players coming together," said an FA spokesman.
"To take any further action would be tantamount to re-refereeing the game."
I for one cannot understand this logic. If the FA can decide that a challenge a player is sent off for is not worthy of a red card and thus recind it, then surely this is tantamount to re-refereeing the game as well. Maybe I am missing something. Either way the challenge was horrific and to not take any further action is tantamount to encouraging this kind of behaviour.
