Don't disagree with you, DL needs to take several steps back this summer. If the financials are doable, listen to the fucking coach, Daniel.

However, I seethe and go a delightful shade of puce when I think of AVB's continued selection of Brad in goal for the Europa. He's young and is always going to make mistakes during these next few yrs so fair enough. Largely been excellent. However, this leaving one of the best keepers in zee vurlt! on the bench is his choice and his alone and he has to live with it.

Stripping it right back, he's wilfully weakened our chances of progressing in the comp.

I'm beginning to doubt his words about taking this cup seriously tbh because the logical disconnect between that statement and knowingly and repeatedly putting out a team with a weaker GK and defence simply don't tally.

It's that or he's an idiot.

Not doubting the validity of your point, but does anyone know for certain that Lloris was fully fit last night? Obviously he didn't play against Everton, but had he completely recovered to play last night?

To be honest, I think we under-performed massively against this team. I can't believe that they're as good as we made them look, or as half the forum states ('we were beaten by a better team'). This is the same team that were knocked out of the Champions League by CFR Cluj from Romania, losing 3-1 on aggregate. They are not world beaters, and I have the feeling that Chelsea will demonstrate that in the semi-finals.

That said, we had opportunities to finish them off, and poor decision making and finishing cost us again. However, our current form
is that we've won 1, lost 3 and drawn 3 of our last 7 games. On current form, our team is poor. This is not the same Tottenham of mid-season, this is end-of-season-throw-it-all-away Tottenham.

Parker and Dembele look knackered and consequently the back 4 aren't getting as good a shield as they would normally. With our two pacy players out, we can't get in behind players and even when we do unlock the door, we have a striker that can't hit the target with a stationary ball on a penalty spot, so what hope is there from open play?

Our remaining hope to get top four rests on the quick and efficient recovery of two very important players.

I think he wants to utilise the whole squad in an effort to keep the team as fresh as possible for the run-in. The only way to do that is to rotate the team. I can see where AVB is coming from, because if Lloris got injured then we'd really suffer if we had to bring in a 43 year old keeper, who hadn't played competitive football for 7 months

Also, I'm sure AVB wants to keep the squad happy - the way the Chelsea players reacted to his changes must still haunt him

Over the next couple of years what I believe we'll see is AVB phasing out the old-guard (Gallas, Friedel, Dawson, Huddlestone, etc) and replace them with his own players

The whole thing's a work in progress, so I'd give it 2 or 3 more seasons before getting stressed

I was quite intrigued by the central midfield pairing of the two Toms we ended up with last night. We sacrificed the support for the defence but I think we defintely looked like we had more threat, intelligence and possibility with those spraying passes. It's a risky choice but I think it could work for some games.

I agree. If all are fully fresh and fit, then first choice should be Dembele and Parker, but we have a squad for a reason, and changing it around a bit will prevent substandard performances from very good players like Dembele last night. Both Toms out-performed him when they came on.

Best football I've ever seen Spurs play was with Hudd and Modric in the middle of the pitch. That was hardly a combative pairing lol. God I miss us being beautiful!

They're not huge in the grand scheme of things but just remember how it felt when we beat Man City to finish 4th? Or the League Cup win against Chelsea; The 5-1 against Arsenal; The 3-2 and 4-4 games against Arsenal. It's only a matter of time before something big comes along, I can't wait.

Love your positive thinking hope your right

sry for offtopic but .. yesterday I was totally dissapointed and depressed. After one night.. it's okay. I'm actually happy for what happened yesterday - not relegation but passion. lads were fighting and I can not blame any of yid fellas for what happened yesterday. i fuckin love Dawson, i fuckin love Vertonghen, i fucking have BIG hopes for little Tommy.

as AVB said: "it's about glory!"
it's about football! it's about passion! it's about (short) happy moments!

fuck relegation, I love this team! I'm a bit drunk but I'm wearing spurs track jacket since morning and I think I'll fall asleep with it.

no offense dudes and have fun

Words coming from Lord Alan Sugar "AVB should be fired," he wrote. "No tactics. Been lucky up till now with results. How can he put Huddlestone as pen taker. Then Adebayor you knew would miss."

Is that a bit extreme? A manager has to back his players and back those willing to take penalties. Huddlestone has a great finish on him so don't see any problems with him taking penalties.

The foundation for a great 2013/14 season has been laid. Bring in AVB's players and I can see his style of playing coming to fruition.

I would love to see Basel lift the Europa League, against Chelsea. Think they deserve it.

as if we should take sugar's opinion on how to run a club seriously.

I'm not knocking your opinion fella it's just that I dont think we will get fourth now as avb to me looks like he rode his luck for a while but now has been found out of late.
Its not his fault if he is out of his depth but rather people above for employing him we can all see that since Liverpool we have been dogshit again far far to many goals conceded and a team that appears to be crashing once again
Given your shallow thinking, you may be the one out of his depth.

Good luck to FC Basel, their performance at WHL proved the difference. Overall last night before we went down to 10 men, considering our options I thought we did really well.
Hope Basel go all the way, they took the game to us, have some exciting players, took their pen's with aplomb , so good luck to them.

I'm hopeing this defeat will galvinise the players for one last push in the league.
From the ashes the Phoenix can always rise, so chin up lads we can still have a great season, onwards and upwards audere est facere my friends.

You are absolutely right about giving avb time but as we all know including himself if this form was to continue to the end of the season and or into next season similar to jol and ramos he would find himself in danger of losing his job.
Like all of us on here I hope he makes us successful and the last few weeks are a thing of the past and we move on to a bright new era.

Didn't want to make a new thread but what happens to verts with his red card? Does it carry over to next year or something?

He'll miss the first two or maybe three games of whichever European competition we are in. I think it's more than one game as it was a straight red.

Can't blame the first goal on Naughton. We're an attacking team. When we have the ball our full backs push up, thats how we play and its a risk we take. Dembele fucked up, not Naughton.

I'm not denying that it was Dembele who messed up, I just felt that if Naughton was in more of a covering position while we still were not comfortably in control of the ball then he would have been able to cover the break across to our left that happened due to Demebele's mistake.

In all honesty, the whole defensive line was out of place, in fact, hardly anyone in the team is in position. Have a look at the video on this page and take it to 32 seconds. You see how atrocious we are at holding position. It is a real shambles. Not one player is in a good position, maybe I am being harsh on Naughton but he is pretty far out of position and considering where the Basel players are our whole teams shape is really bad.
