He's not out of his depth, but your hero's team appears to be sinking. I suggest you get over Redknapp or seek bereavement counselling.

als are we one of the only teams in football who can't take a 1-0 lead in a big game and just see it out for an hour.

Quotes from AVB if anyone missed it last night:

"We are extremely happy for setting a great example for English football and how to approach this competition," the Portuguese added.

"To change the mentality towards this competition from one season to the other is very difficult.

"They have done it like heroes, played it like heroes because it was never an excuse for underperforming in the Premier League."

Of the manner of their defeat, Villas-Boas said: "Penalties are always very, very difficult.

"We had assigned the strongest penalty-takers and we practised the penalties.

"The nature of penalties is very, very difficult and you can never recreate the same stress and emotion in training.
"They had their preferred slots where to put the ball, but it changes dramatically in live situations."

Re the Adebayor miss, for me it's not so much that he missed, it's the fact that when it went to penalties I was thinking 'please not Adebayor' as I just had zero confidence in him handling the pressure. It sounds like I was far from alone with those feelings, which is hardly a ringing endorsement for our only striker on the pitch, who would generally be the player you would bank on the most in a penalty shoot out. We're stuck with him til the end of the season so lets support him until then but I really hope he is playing elsewhere next season.

Words coming from Lord Alan Sugar "AVB should be fired," he wrote. "No tactics. Been lucky up till now with results. How can he put Huddlestone as pen taker. Then Adebayor you knew would miss."

Is that a bit extreme? A manager has to back his players and back those willing to take penalties. Huddlestone has a great finish on him so don't see any problems with him taking penalties.

The foundation for a great 2013/14 season has been laid. Bring in AVB's players and I can see his style of playing coming to fruition.

I would love to see Basel lift the Europa League, against Chelsea. Think they deserve it.

You can't criticise a manager when it comes to penalties. We were down to 10 men away to a strong Basel side and got back into the game and then held out. I'm pretty proud of the team and can't believe some of you lot. You would find a way to whinge like little girls even if we won the Prem league.

So AVB committed to playing his best available starting XI for the majority of the Europa League. Where has that got us? A tired squad, our best player injured, and no silverware.... goes to prove that Harry was right!!

Should have stuck to playing a second string team in the Europa League and kept our key players fresh for the Premier League campaign instead.

We'll finish 5th in the league this year behind Arsenal in 3rd and Chelsea in 4th.

Bale will be gone in the summer.

Levy will mess around in the transfer market as usual but fail to deliver as usual. Blue & Yellow, yeah right....

I've been a season ticket holder for the last 8 seasons and I'm fed up with the same old excuses year in, year out. Levy engineered the departure of the best manager we had in the last 25 years because he never trusted Harry and he never believed that Harry fitted his description of a modern day football manager. Now he has AVB who was found out at Chelsea - and who'llbe found out at Spurs within the next 6-9 months. We have a reducing squad which has too many players which are simply not good enough to play regularly for a 'top 3' team - Gallas, Assou-Ekotto, Adebayor, Dempsey, Lennon (yes, completely overrated & overhyped by Spurs fans), Huddlestone, Defoe, Livermore, Friedel... not good enough.

What I'd give for a Berbatov or Modric in their prime... that was before Levy sold them and replaced them with players of a much lesser quality, but that's our beloved chairman's definition of a 'good deal'.

You're lost pal, Talksport is thataway >>>

Lord Sugar is a complete twat for saying that - he knows business but he knows Fuck All about Football - as he proved time and again during his tenure at WHL.

Hudd's penalty was a good one and required a brilliant one-handed save from the keeper.

Ade's penalty was simply a reflection of the man himself - languid, not bothered, didn't give a shit, tried to be cool but looked like a fool - the man simply can not strike a ball like a striker should.

What Sugar knows about tactics can be measured in nano-units.

Well that's a very diplomatic way of describing the insane ranting of a total moron who knows fuck all about the game.

But yeah, a 'bit' extreme...

As has been said, thank fuck for Sugar. Just the man needed at the time to see us through a time we very nearly went under. He outstayed his welcome by abut 8 yrs though. Still utterly clueless about football. In every single way. And on this occasion he should have kept his fat mouth well and truly shut.

We have our very own Piers Morgan everyone.

I disagreed with you Gardham because we've had to really dig deep to get to this stage in the competition; ground out the group stages, scored late away to Lyon when they parked the bus, held on in the San Siro when we lost our 3 goal advantage, took it to penalties away in Basel when we were down to 10 men.

Would the Tottenham sides of the 90s or early noughties have done that? Would they fuck.

You can blame the team for a lack of ability (and I'd agree) but you can't blame them for mental weakness.

The reason the Tottenham side of the 90s or early noughties wouldn't of done it was beacase they had no ability and were shit.

I'm just saying in general, when it really comes to the crunch we consisntenly bottle it. That's all. I will never stop supporting us though!

I guess you're calling it bottle, I'm calling it ability

Massive fan of AVB but despite purchasing fantastic players like Vertonghen,Lloris & Dembele after selling Modric & VDV he has been seriously undermined by the board and has been forced to play with shit like Friedel,Gallas,Parker & Adebayor due to injuries. We should have had options on the wings (andros townsend loan beggars belief) and up front( ade LAZY &SHIT & defoe THICK&SHIT ) but Levy decided no and we are paying for it now. Despite all this the REAL reason is corruption and arsenal & chelsea have it in abundance whereas we never get anything. BUT IM STILL TOTTENHAM TILL I DIE unlike sad gooners who wanted wenger out and chelsea fans who boo their interim manager. To be frankly honest these fans don,t deserve success and its a disgrace that sheer luck & sheer corruption will probably enable these plastic/fake fans a bite at the champions league but we ain,t finished yet. Don't disagree with you, DL needs to take several steps back this summer. If the financials are doable, listen to the fucking coach, Daniel.

However, I seethe and go a delightful shade of puce when I think of AVB's continued selection of Brad in goal for the Europa. He's young and is always going to make mistakes during these next few yrs so fair enough. Largely been excellent. However, this leaving one of the best keepers in zee vurlt! on the bench is his choice and his alone and he has to live with it.

Stripping it right back, he's wilfully weakened our chances of progressing in the comp.

I'm beginning to doubt his words about taking this cup seriously tbh because the logical disconnect between that statement and knowingly and repeatedly putting out a team with a weaker GK and defence simply don't tally.

It's that or he's an idiot.
