Bassong Fined 2 Weeks Wages

    Newcastle United's Sebastien Bassong has been fined the maximum 2 week's wages by the club for refusing to travel to their pre-match friendly against Dundee United at the weekend. The 23 year old has made it clear he wishes to leave Newcastle and is sought after by several clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

    It is thought that Bassong, whom Alan Shearer placed a £10million price tag on, is worried about picking up an injury which will ruin his chances of a big money transfer.

    The Chronicle reported the following from a "Source" at the club;

    "As far as the club is concerned he is under contract with Newcastle United. And if he fails to turn up for a game then the necessary action must be taken."

    Bassong joined Newcastle last summer for £500,000 but it has been reported that the club have rejected a £10million bid for the player made by Spurs, a bid Spurs manager Harry Redknapp claims to know nothing about.

    Shearer isn't the manager, so why is he making the prices? Surely Houghton can do us a favour for all the years he was with us and drop the price.

    Hughton's not the manager either. He's caretaker manager. He's actually only employed as a First Team Coach. In this instance Im sure it would be a board decision as to the price of one of their players.

    It's not really going to bother him that much is it? Seeing as his weekly wage is like 5000 a week. Still a lot of money, but for a footballer who is going to get a move for a lot more a week, it's not a lot.

    presumably harry's interest in bassong implies that he does consider Younes Kaboul to be rubbish after all? Otherwise he could nab him on the cheap from Pompey who are desperate to sell.
