Not official, but.......

http://www.spurs-web.com/2009/11/01/spurs-defender-out-for-at-least-a-month/

Sebasten Bassong could be ruled out of action for at least a month.
The Tottenham defender picked up a hamstring injury late on in the 3=0 defeat to Arsenal on Saturday and could play no further part in the game.
Bassong said: “I might be out for four or five weeks.”
Fortunately for Spurs, both Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate have recently recovered from injury.

Shame because he's been hugely impressive so far. I winced when he broke down yesterday although a month isn't as long as I feared it could be.

Woody and Daws though, can't really as for better replacements!

It would be a shame for the lad if he loses his place in the team through injury, but as you say, Woody and Daws are more than capable of doing a good job. :)
(And let's not forget about Ledley.........assuming yesterday was just a blip!)

Not good news....

Looks like Dawson and Woodgate will get a few starts with King in and out of the team. Hope we dont come up against many fast attackers

Woody's positional sense and immense reading of the game means that he doesn't need to be quick, he's hardly 'slow' anyway. Daws more than adequate cover too. I'm more worried as to how poor we look up top at the moment.

we should be a bit pleased to see that, while Harry seem don't like to change his own team, he could easily now see King is better as LCB, i'm not impressed with his partnership with Bassong from the day one and i said that several times even when we where leaders after 4 weeks. King used just as LCB in recent years and can't see him content to change now unless we are forced to used him there if all Woody, Dawson & Corluka are out.

for me, Woodgate-King is better although it is too risky with their injury problems, so if it is up to me:

Woodgate - King ( Bassong as bencher )
Woodgate - Bassong ( Dawson as bencher - rest King )
Dawson - King ( Bassong as bencher - rest Woodgate )
Dawson - Bassong

we can also use Corluka instead of Dawson ( if he is not good enough or wants leave ) but that's only if we have better attacking RB, which needed in home games as the performances in recent home games like West ham, West Brom, Newcastle, Birmingham, & stoke is very worrying. I think we need to drop Corluka or Ekotto in games like these, and stick with them only in big games.

it is not that they are not able replacements it is just that we can not seem to field the same 2 CB's for any leanth of time - and here we are in November with yet another 2 partnering..........It is just shit, such bad luck:bang:

I don't think this is a huge problem. We have 3 good defenders we can shuffle for a month.

i think it's terrible news, seb has helped keep us together since he joined

i discount king as anything but a bonus (and his performance on saturday was far from that - maybe the flu was hindering him - if so Daws should have played )

so we just have woody and daws to rely on - could be problematic to say the least

This is the perfect oppertunity to get Dawson in for a run of games. I know there are a lot of Dawson haters here, but for me, he is the young defender we need to try the hardest to get the best out of.

When he hit the scene at Spurs, playing with a fully fit ledley King, not only were people harping on about the fact that the 8 million fee we paid for him & Reid was justified on him alone, but that he was so similar to a young JT, it was scary. That season he shone, showing all the basic attributes a young up and coming centre back needed.

A King injury, and kaboul signing later, Michael Dawson was now having to not only adapt to the pace of the EPL, but adapt to being the senior CB, playing alongside a striker in defenders clothing. That spell alongside Kaboul, set Dawson's development back further than we could have ever imagined. Not only was he having to cover for a positionally naiive CB partner, but he was getting lambasted at every oppertunity, whilst many drewled over the "Arsenal" style of football Mr Kaboul seemed able to play. We forgot what a CB is all about, favouring flair over decisiveness, and we paid the price....a poor defensive record, and a shattered Michael Dawson, both mentally & physically.

In the last year, when playing, Dawson has shown something like the type of ability he started to show when he signed for the club, his passion, never say die attitude and eagerness to play is there for all to see. Posititionally he has improved, learning that being a pacy centre back is not essential, whereas reading the game certainly is. His passing and distribution has also vastly improved, and there was never any doubting his ability to attack the ball in the air. I have also seen him go back to his simple style. He no longer tries to over elaborate his defending, if he's under pressure, he's happy again to deal with it in the simplest fashion.

So please Mr Redknapp, give Dawson a chance to shine & fulfill his true potential.

Great post WhiteSteve. Totally agree. At one time I thought he was only good when he had an experienced defender like Ledley next to him, but now I think he has improved and has become a very good defender. Always willing to put his body on the line, and his overall positioning sense has improved. I'd be happy to see him in the team regularly.

So you consider six out of 11 appearances a bonus? We have a game on Saturday and then an international break and then the next mid-week game is United away for which Bassong may be back- but that doesn't matter anyway because we are dead set to lose aren't we? Maybe we should just forefeit that game.
