i remember watching some beach soccer competition on Trans World Sport (second rate Sunday morning sports show, bringing you highlights from around the globe, about three weeks after it happened) and enjoyed that a lot, but Sunday morning telly used to, technically, be Saturday night telly still on a good weekend
Didn't see England in the comp, so maybe did not qualify - it is being hosted in French Polynesia this year, with Tahiti being the surprise package much Like Korea were when they hosted the world cup. Semi finals tommorow I think - Brazil ofcourse are very strong, but believe it or not they were beat 12-8 by Russia last world cup final - so it is the Russians who are defending the title. Spain are there too, who like Russia are more of a tactical team than a showboating flair type deal, which Japan, El Salvador and Iran are - but they all went out in the quarters to the aforementioned teams. Shame in a way, because they score the most beautiful goals. I hope Tahiti get the cup on their home sand this year.
As you can imagine goals can be scored at very fast rates, which makes compelling viewing. I can imagine I would be better suited to this kind of footie, and wish I knew where a club I could play at is. I can't believe more players don't get sand in their eyes though.
Russia won it again, in a one sided final 5-1 over Spain. Brazil came 3rd in an amazing match against Tahiti. 7-7 lost on penalties 1-0. Tahiti scored after thetime buzzer went but because the ball was in mid air from a set piece, it counted.
