thought he was nailed on for PSG

David Beckham is leaning towards extending his spell with Los Angeles Galaxy, BBC Sport understands.

The 36-year-old midfielder is still considering whether to stay in Major League Soccer, or accept an offer from Qatari-owned Paris Saint-Germain.

The French club's interest in Beckham was revealed by BBC Sport in September.

But contrary to reports in France, no agreement has been finalised with PSG and LA Galaxy have now emerged as the favourites to win his signature.

The former England captain has been discussing the next stage of his career with his family and business partner Simon Fuller.

He could yet decide to join forces again with newly appointed PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti and sporting director Leonardo, having worked with both men at AC Milan during loan spells in 2009 and 2010.

However, it is understood his wife Victoria and children feel settled in California and are happy to stay.

The wishes of his family are the priority for Beckham in any decision he reaches.

Beckham's contract with Galaxy expires on 31 December, but the club and MLS have now offered him one-year rolling deal that has made the player feel highly valued, and impressed his advisors.

The former Manchester United midfielder takes his commitment to the growth of football in the US very seriously.

Crucially, the new contract would also include dispensation for Beckham to be a part of the Great Britain football team at the 2012 London Olympics if selected.

PSG have been in negotiations with Fuller, but Leonardo admitted on Friday that the signing of Beckham "might not happen", casting further doubt on the move.

Beckham joined LA Galaxy from Real Madrid in 2007 and, after two loan spells in Milan, recently helped the Californian side to the MLS Cup with a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo.

I was silently hoping that an Everton or Villa would take him on a 1-year contract, as it'd be great to see him in the PL once more. I, and many others, have always admired this guy, so best of luck to him whatever he decides to do.

It's pretty obvious that Ancelloti has put his foot down and blocked the move. If PSG wish to be taken seriously as a football club then they could well do without a 36 year old who had his best days 10 years ago.

No doubt Beckham's 'people' will put a different spin on things - 'family reasons' is usually par for the course.
